With the incessant honking of cars and the bustling crowds gone, the capital seems to slow down in this moment of transition between seasons. Streets accustomed to a hectic pace of life become deserted, opening up a rare space of tranquility and serenity.

From the Old Quarter to Hoan Kiem Lake, from Hang Ngang and Hang Dao streets to Dong Xuan Market, the scene on the morning of the first day of Tet (Lunar New Year) presents a distinctly different beauty. The streets are sparsely populated with cars and motorbikes. Gone are the long lines of vehicles rushing by; instead, people are seen cycling, jogging, and leisurely enjoying the fresh air of the new year. The rows of old houses and lush green trees stand out even more in this rare tranquility.

Hang Chieu Street, O Quan Chuong Gate, and Dao Duy Tu Street have returned to their original ancient charm. Gone are the bustling marketplaces and sidewalk businesses; the vibrant red and yellow flags stretching along the streets create a lively yet tranquil scene. Around Hoan Kiem Lake, many people woke up early to stroll, breathe in the fresh air, and exchange good wishes for the new year.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, a resident of Hoan Kiem district, said that every year she spends the morning of the first day of Tet walking around the lake. “I love this moment the most. Hanoi on the morning of the first day of Tet is very different, peaceful and serene. There are no car noises, no hustle and bustle, just a feeling of tranquility. I hope that in the year of the Horse 2026, the city will develop more strongly but still retain these precious moments of peace,” she shared.
In another corner of the Old Quarter, Mr. Tran Minh Tuan, a resident living near Dong Xuan Market, also took the opportunity to capture some photos of the early spring. He believes that the morning of the first day of Tet is a rare moment to fully appreciate the beauty of Hanoi. “Normally, this area is very crowded, but today it is unusually peaceful. I feel proud of my city and hope that the new year will be a breakthrough year for the economy , tourism, and people's lives,” he said.

Not only Hanoi residents, but many tourists also took advantage of the early morning hours. At Ngoc Son Temple, streams of people went to worship in a solemn atmosphere. Two young people stopped to take a commemorative photo amidst the tranquil surroundings. Mr. Michael Anderson, a tourist from Australia, said he was surprised by the peacefulness of Hanoi on the first day of the year. “I used to know Hanoi as a vibrant city, but this morning was very different. I felt a sense of serenity and friendliness. I believe that 2026 will be a successful year for Hanoi, because this city has great vitality and potential,” he expressed.
The morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse) concluded in the gentle spring sunshine. Hanoi remained, but seemed to return to a slower, more profound rhythm. Amidst the relentless development of the modern city, such peaceful moments become a spiritual anchor for its people. And in the quietude of the first day of the year, many believe that a new chapter is unfolding, promising a Hanoi that will develop strongly while still retaining its unique charm.
