The processing and manufacturing sector continues to play a leading role.

In 2025, industrial manufacturing businesses in Hanoi experienced a positive recovery. Data from Hanoi City Statistics shows that industrial activity not only recovered but also grew strongly, reflecting the effectiveness of government and city policies aimed at removing obstacles, supporting businesses, and promoting the transformation of production models.

According to the Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, Vo Nguyen Phong, the overall industrial production index of Hanoi in 2025 is projected to increase by 7.2% compared to 2024, far exceeding the 5.9% increase of the previous year and representing the highest increase since the Covid-19 pandemic. Notably, the manufacturing industry continues to play a leading role, with its added value increasing by 7.18%, contributing 0.85 percentage points to Hanoi's overall GRDP growth.

Within the processing and manufacturing sector, many industries achieved impressive growth rates, such as motor vehicle production (up 17.3%); non-metallic mineral products (up 13.1%); electronics and computer products (up 12.9%); and leather and related products (up 11.2%). This indicates a clearer trend towards higher value-added industries.

However, some sectors are still facing difficulties as their industrial production index decreased compared to the previous year, such as the production of beds, cabinets, tables, chairs, and electrical equipment. These are sectors heavily impacted by fluctuating demand and market competition.

Notably, the inventory index of the manufacturing sector at the end of 2025 decreased by as much as 31.3% compared to the end of the previous year. Many items saw significant inventory reductions, such as motor vehicles, pharmaceuticals, paper and paper products, and clothing. This reflects a marked improvement in product output and the efficiency of production management by businesses.

The supporting industries sector is also growing in line with the general trend. According to Tran Phuong Lam, Secretary General of the Hanoi Supporting Industries Business Association, 2025 will be a period when Hanoi's supporting industries community accelerates recovery and enhances resilience against global fluctuations.

From a business perspective, the General Director of May 10 Corporation - Than Duc Viet JSC stated that, with efforts to maintain production and stabilize employment during a period of uncertainty in the export market, coupled with the city's decisive involvement in improving the investment environment, promoting administrative procedure reforms, and supporting businesses in expanding production, May 10 aims to achieve an import-export turnover of 328 million USD in 2025, with exports exceeding 200 million USD. Revenue is projected at 5,136 billion VND, and profit at 212 billion VND. Average income is expected to exceed 11 million VND per employee per month. Entering a new phase, May 10 is committed to pursuing a sustainable development strategy, focusing on digital transformation, green transformation, and enhancing design and innovation capabilities. The company aims to achieve an import-export turnover of 1 billion USD by 2030, gradually building a more prominent position in the international market.

Enhancing added value and competitiveness

According to the Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, Vo Nguyen Phong, recognizing industry as one of the key drivers of growth, Hanoi will focus on developing processing and manufacturing industries, high-tech industries, and key industrial products in the 2026-2030 period. Accordingly, by 2026, the city aims to have 30-40 key industrial products; and by 2026-2030, this number will reach 180-200 products, with export turnover accounting for approximately 20-25% of the city's total export turnover. Notably, the proportion of high-tech products, information technology, and mechanical-electrical-electronic products is targeted to account for over 70% of the total key industrial products, thereby increasing added value, competitiveness, and the position of Hanoi's industry in the global supply chain.

Alongside product development, the city continues to promote supporting industries. By 2026, Hanoi aims to have over 1,000 supporting industry enterprises, reaching approximately 1,200 by 2030, gradually forming a production ecosystem that connects domestic and FDI enterprises.

To promote industrial production growth, the City People's Committee has assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to take the lead in urging departments, agencies, and localities to synchronously implement solutions regarding credit interest rates for priority sectors...; focusing on improving the investment and business environment, removing bottlenecks and difficulties, especially for investment projects using non-budgetary capital, thereby improving the investment and business environment... creating momentum for socio-economic recovery and development.

In addition, the city continues to support businesses in innovation, improving production capacity, and increasing the localization rate; closely monitoring developments in the global economy, doing a good job of providing market information, especially on potential markets; guiding and supporting associations and businesses in exploiting and developing traditional markets and opening up new, high-potential markets; promoting awareness of free trade agreements, helping businesses understand opportunities to boost investment in production and supply chain linkages… The city also hopes that businesses will proactively grasp and propose policies, invest in technology and techniques to meet the requirements for deep participation in global production chains.

The business community expects that the effectiveness of support measures, along with the economic recovery, will help businesses continue to thrive in 2026.
