The intensifying cold front caused temperatures in Hanoi to drop to 10 degrees Celsius on the night of January 22nd and the early morning of January 23rd. Despite the biting cold, many people still went to sidewalk eateries and lit fires to warm themselves, as a way to fully experience winter.

Hanoi is experiencing its coldest spell since the beginning of winter. Last night, on the sidewalk of Lac Long Quan Street (Tay Ho Ward), a group of young people gathered around a bonfire at a beverage stall to ward off the cold.

At the construction site of the Ring Road 1, some people were also trying to cope with the freezing temperatures at 10 PM.

At 11:30 PM, the stalls selling grilled corn and sweet potatoes on the sidewalks of Trích Sài Street attract many customers.

One young person said that sitting by a fire on the sidewalk in the biting cold is the best way to fully enjoy the winter atmosphere.

According to Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, the North is experiencing the coldest period since the beginning of the 2025-2026 winter season. Specifically, mountainous and midland areas in the North recorded temperatures of 5-7 degrees Celsius. Particularly, at Mau Son ( Lang Son ), the lowest temperature was only 0.2 degrees Celsius; while the Northern Delta region experienced temperatures of 9-11 degrees Celsius.

The meteorological agency forecasts that temperatures in the North will gradually rise starting from January 24th.
