The victim, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoc (born in 1973, residing in Yen Diem village), was discovered at 4:00 a.m. the same day (November 12), not far from the sunken boat. When found, Mr. Hoc was still wearing a raincoat. The victim's body was returned to his family for burial according to local customs.
Previously, at around 4:30 p.m. on November 11, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoc and his son Nguyen Van Quan (born in 2008) rowed a boat to the sea area of Yen Diem village, Loc Ha commune to cast their nets but unfortunately encountered big waves and the boat sank. Nguyen Van Quan was quickly discovered by a boat behind and rescued and brought safely to shore, while Mr. Nguyen Van Hoc was swept away by the waves and went missing.
Immediately after receiving the information, local leaders and functional forces were present at the scene, coordinating with Yen Diem villagers to actively search for the missing people and pull the sunken boat ashore.
Mr. Truong Van Thong, Secretary of Yen Diem village, said that while using a boat to catch seafood at sea, his son Nguyen Van Quan was wearing a life jacket and was fortunately rescued by another boat. As for Mr. Nguyen Van Hoc, because of the cold weather, he was wearing many warm clothes and a raincoat over it, so when he fell into the sea, he could not swim.
Currently, the local government and Yen Diem village are holding a funeral ceremony and visiting and encouraging the victim's family.
