The changing seasons in Ha Tinh with erratic weather changes, temperature differences between day and night, high humidity, alternating rain and sunshine make the body susceptible to damage. Many people experience symptoms of fatigue, cough, runny nose, sore throat, dry skin or allergies due to decreased resistance.

MSc., Dr. Nguyen Chi Thanh - Director of the Center for Disease Control of Ha Tinh province said: "The change of seasons makes the human body's resistance easily decrease. Health care needs to be carried out synchronously, including keeping the body warm, proper nutrition, personal hygiene and keeping the living environment clean and airy. In particular, children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with underlying diseases are the groups that need to be closely monitored. When symptoms persist or worsen, people should go to a medical facility for advice, not arbitrarily use medicine based on experience."
According to records at the Provincial General Hospital, from November 13 to now, nearly 80 pediatric patients in the Pediatrics Department alone are being treated for pneumonia, high fever, and infections. Experts warn that when the temperature changes suddenly, the nasal and throat mucosa can easily dry out or shrink, reducing its natural protective ability, leading to the possibility of contracting flu and pneumonia. In addition, living in a closed space with little ventilation, using air conditioning or heaters in a closed room makes the air circulate poorly, causing discomfort in the respiratory tract and skin. Changing living habits such as reducing exercise, eating irregularly, and sleeping late also makes the body tired and reduces resistance. That requires proactive prevention from the people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mien (Tu My commune) shared: “In winter, because my family lives in the mountains, the cold is also more severe. To ensure the health of the elderly in the house, I often boil ginger water to drink and soak my feet. Meals are also supplemented with foods that help increase resistance. For my children, I always remind them to keep their bodies warm and limit them from bathing late. I also pay attention to cleaning the house, avoiding mold and limiting the growth of bacteria.”
The health sector has also promoted to the people appropriate health care measures during the transitional season, including: keeping the body warm, especially the neck, chest, and feet; wearing suitable clothing, avoiding sudden temperature changes; eating a nutritious diet, increasing green vegetables, fruits, and foods rich in vitamins; drinking enough water; getting enough sleep; maintaining appropriate exercise; personal hygiene, and a clean, airy living environment.

Accordingly, many households in residential areas also pay attention to cleaning the living environment. Mr. Tran Van Hung (Thanh Sen ward) said: “The humid weather easily breeds flies, mosquitoes and mold, so every week my family does a general cleaning, dries the blankets, and wipes the floor with disinfectant. I think keeping the environment clean is as important as keeping the body warm. In addition, I maintain the habit of drinking warm water, exercising, and gargling with salt water to protect my health. The most important thing is to keep the body warm, especially the feet and neck.”
Along with preventing respiratory diseases, the changing seasons can also easily cause skin diseases that cause discomfort and loss of aesthetics. People need to pay attention to skin care by moisturizing regularly, avoiding using products of unknown origin that can cause irritation. When unusual symptoms such as prolonged high fever, difficulty breathing, rash, convulsions or worsening symptoms appear, go to a medical facility for timely advice and treatment.
Ms. Tran Thi Huyen (Tran Phu ward) shared: “After giving birth, I suffered from weather allergies. When the temperature turned cold, my body often broke out in hives, causing itching and loss of aesthetics. Knowing my condition, every time the weather turned cold, I supplemented vitamins to increase my resistance, drank some herbal medicines to warm my body, and dressed warmly or used devices to warm my body, especially the palms of my hands and feet.”
Taking the initiative to take care of your health when the weather changes is practical and effective if done correctly. Each person taking the initiative to protect themselves and their families not only helps maintain health but also contributes to ensuring safety for the community, reducing pressure on the grassroots health system during fluctuating weather.
