In late November, Ham Rong beach in Vinh Loc commune ( Hue city) was completely deformed after a series of storms. The golden sandbank was eroded by waves, breakwaters were uprooted, and beachside shops were severely damaged. Vinh Loc commune People's Committee said that 5 shops were severely damaged; in village 4, 14 households were in the landslide danger zone.

The entire coastline is eroded.
The continuous large waves have exposed the foundations of concrete structures, the columns hanging suspended above the waves. In many places, the banks have become vertical frogs, posing potential risks to residents and tourists. The sandy shore has been washed away, the once bustling space is now quiet and desolate.

Voices from coastal business people
Mr. Hoang Trong Quang, owner of a restaurant at Ham Rong beach, shared that the erosion has been going on for many years, but the recent level is beyond imagination. “My restaurant used to have two rows of coconut trees more than 30 meters from the sea edge. Now the waves have washed them all away, washed away the foundation and collapsed the restaurant. This scene has never happened here before,” he said.

Safety risks and community impacts
Sea erosion not only destroys shops but also directly impacts residential areas. According to local research, village 4 of Vinh Loc commune currently has 14 households in the landslide-prone area. Without urgent solutions, the sea may continue to eat into the mainland, threatening the safety and livelihoods of many households.

Proposed solution
Together with business households, Ham Rong residents expect the authorities to soon deploy emergency measures such as soft embankments and sheet pile embankments to reduce the rate of erosion while waiting for the solid embankment. Vinh Loc Commune People's Committee has proposed Hue City to allocate funds to handle severe landslides, restore livelihoods and ensure safety for residential areas. In the long term, it is necessary to invest in a hard embankment system to protect the coast, and at the same time upgrade coastal roads to serve rescue and relief during the rainy and stormy season.
