Domestic Tet goods reaffirm their position as the Lunar New Year approaches.

With only about a month left until Vietnam enters the Lunar New Year of the Horse, the Tet holiday market in Hanoi and other provinces and cities across the country is entering its peak season.

Throughout 2025, with numerous efforts to revive the economy , the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue nationwide recorded an impressive growth rate of nearly 10%. Particularly in the days leading up to the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), a prominent trend was the absolute dominance of domestic goods on store shelves.

Beyond just quantity, Vietnamese goods are truly asserting their position through quality, design, and the enduring trust of consumers. To ensure sufficient supply for Tet (Lunar New Year) shopping, Hanoi has implemented a plan to stockpile goods worth approximately 40,000 billion VND, a slight increase compared to last year. At major supermarket chains such as WinMart, BRG Mart, and Co.op Mart in Hanoi, it's easy to see that Tet gift baskets, confectionery, and Vietnamese agricultural products are dominating the main display areas.

Vietnamese products dominate the Tet holiday shelves in supermarkets.

While in previous years, imported goods were often the top priority for gift-giving purposes, this year, the strong investment in packaging and design by domestic businesses has completely changed the landscape.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, an experienced housewife who has shopped for Tet for many years, shared her surprise at the abundance of domestic goods this year: "I find Tet goods this year abundant, especially Vietnamese goods, which are much more beautiful and have more attractive designs than in previous years."

This change is not just superficial. After many years of implementation, the "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" campaign has deepened, with domestic businesses proactively controlling production processes and ensuring transparency of origin. This resonates with the public's emphasis on food safety following market fluctuations.

Affirming that prioritizing Vietnamese products has now become a natural habit, Ms. La Thi Minh, a customer in Cau Giay ward, expressed: "Vietnamese products are now of very good quality. When consumers use high-quality Vietnamese products with clear addresses and origins, they will use them more often than foreign products," Ms. Minh said.

To maintain that trust, the role of distribution units is extremely important. In Hanoi, modern retail systems have increased the proportion of Vietnamese goods to over 90%. However, for a Vietnamese product to be placed on supermarket shelves during Tet, it must go through many rigorous inspection rounds.

Sharing about the system's strict control process to protect consumer rights, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong, Deputy General Director of BRG Retail Co., Ltd., said that when working with suppliers, BRG will check the documentation, origin, food safety and hygiene, and related supply documents. At the same time, BRG will also visit the production site to inspect food safety and hygiene conditions, as well as production conditions as committed by the supplier.

"With the logistics and sales departments at supermarkets, upon receiving goods, they will double-check the product labels and tags to ensure they are complete. The internal control department can still conduct surprise inspections of all departments within the company, as well as surprise inspections of suppliers to ensure that the suppliers' commitments to the system are fulfilled," Ms. Duong informed.

One of the biggest worries for people during Tet (Lunar New Year) is the "seasonal price increase." However, according to observations by reporters in mid-January, the prices of essential goods remain stable thanks to close coordination between businesses and management agencies in price stabilization. Feeling reassured about shopping for Tet early, Ms. Ha Thi Linh, a resident of Tay Mo ward, said that this year's Tet goods at supermarkets are very abundant, and the prices are very reasonable, not having increased compared to previous years.

In addition to maintaining stable prices, retailers are proactively launching a series of deep discounts to stimulate consumer demand. At major retail chains, the shopping atmosphere is more vibrant than ever thanks to practical promotional policies.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung, Head of Customer Service at Winmart Smart City, said that recognizing the high volume of goods purchased by customers during the Tet holiday season, the system has worked with suppliers to offer more promotions. "For example, the cosmetics department has buy-one-get-one-free programs and 50% off on certain items. For essential products, the system also has promotional programs with discounts of 10% - 20%," Ms. Nhung explained.

Observations show that Vietnamese goods are truly dominating the domestic market during the Lunar New Year of 2026. With abundant supply, diverse designs, and especially affordable prices and guaranteed quality, Vietnamese goods not only bring a warm and joyful Tet to every family but also demonstrate the strong vitality of domestic production. Furthermore, the trust of consumers is the greatest driving force for Vietnamese goods to continue asserting their position and reaching even greater heights in the new year of 2026.
