Son Doong is the largest cave in the world.

According to Wanderlust, if someone is cherishing the dream of going out into space to explore the universe, there are "surreal" destinations on Earth that will partly help them satisfy this desire.

The world’s largest cave in Vietnam is one such destination. Not only is it nearly 9 km long, Son Doong Cave is also large enough to accommodate an entire New York City block with room to spare.

Some of the world's tallest stalagmites are also found here, reaching heights of up to 80 m, alongside an underground river that runs through the cave.

"Visitors can join multi-day cave exploration tours here. However, because the number of visitors is limited, visitors must book about 1 year in advance," according to Wanderlust.

According to experts, Son Doong Cave was formed about 2.3 million years ago, when a large river eroded a series of fault mountain sections in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh .

This cave is now home to many rare species of animals and plants, thanks to the abundant rainfall and light shining into the cave.

Son Doong was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest cave in 2009. At the time the record was recognized, many experts said the cave could be even larger because it had not been fully surveyed.

In addition to Son Doong Cave, Wanderlust's list also includes many other outstanding destinations such as Vatnajökull National Park (Iceland), Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (Brazil), Socotra (Yemen)...
