Hundreds of monks, nuns and Buddhists participate in humanitarian blood donation

On November 23, the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Hanoi organized a blood donation program and launched a campaign to support people affected by natural disasters and floods. Attending the event were Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and hundreds of monks, nuns, lecturers and Buddhists.

Speaking at the program, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Quyet, Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and President of the Academy, emphasized that donating blood is a noble act, a way to spread the love and compassion of Buddhism into life. "Every drop of blood donated today not only saves people but also sows the seeds of compassion and wisdom for life, is practicing Bodhisattva in everyday life, is serving people according to the spirit of selflessness and altruism of Vietnamese Buddhism", the Most Venerable emphasized.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that over the past 30 years, the voluntary blood donation movement has grown steadily, achieving encouraging results, contributing to ensuring emergency and treatment work. From 1994 to present, the whole country has received over 24 million units of blood; in 2024 alone, it will reach over 1.7 million units, with a voluntary blood donation rate of 98% and a repeat blood donation rate of over 63%. The Minister highly appreciated the participation of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, affirming that each unit of blood is "a realization of love and sharing".

About 300 units of blood were donated during the day at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Hanoi.

The Academy launched a fundraising campaign to support people in difficulty due to natural disasters and floods.

Along with the blood donation, the academy launched a program to support people affected by natural disasters. The organizers called for donations of necessities, medicine, blankets and financial resources to help people quickly overcome the damage. Academy leaders said that all donations will be transferred to the affected localities through the authorities; at the same time, the academy plans to organize a volunteer group to directly visit the people in the near future.
