This morning, at metro stations, thousands of people were also present, lining up to experience the train.
Inside Ben Thanh underground station, people lined up tightly, inching their way inside. Despite the long wait, everyone was happy and radiant because they were about to board the city’s first metro train.
Station staff worked hard to direct traffic and ensure passenger safety and security.
"I am very happy and excited because Ho Chi Minh City has completed the metro line, helping people travel conveniently. Today I know many people will experience the metro, but I still want to go because this is a historic moment for the city," Minh Hung, a resident of District 3, shared.
Ms. Nguyet Thuy (65 years old, living in District 10, sitting on the right) shared that she was very happy and moved when the metro line was put into operation to serve the people. "I am over 60 years old and just got to take the first metro ride of the city, it feels so special. The train runs smoothly, the space is airy and very clean. We are very proud of the city", Ms. Thuy said.
"It's really great, the metro is fast, the train compartment is cool and spacious. Sitting on the train looking out the window, I have a completely new perspective of the city, this is an experience that cannot be had when traveling by motorbike or car. From now on, I have another option to travel by metro, helping me avoid the tiring traffic jams during rush hour", Kim Lien, a resident of Thu Duc City, shared.
Within 30 days of the official operation of Metro Line 1, all people using the metro and 17 electric bus routes connecting the metro will be exempted from ticket fees. In particular, those who have contributed to the revolution, the disabled, the elderly, and children under 6 years old will be 100% exempted from fees when using the metro and buses, with no time limit.
