Previously, Nguyen Thi Duong and her children in Vinh Phu village (Ky Khang commune) lived in a makeshift shack with a leaky roof and rickety walls. As a single woman, raising a mentally disabled child, for many years, Duong's life was always in poverty, worrying about every meal and every penny spent on medicine for her child.

The leaders of Ky Khang commune coordinated with the Bac Ky Anh Agricultural Bank to give 60 million VND to Ms. Nguyen Thi Duong to build a house.

Thanks to the attention of the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front of the commune and the cooperation of organizations, philanthropists, and neighbors, Ms. Duong's family has just been supported to build a new house worth nearly 150 million VND. The house is sturdy and clean, a happiness that she never dared to think of.

“I was so touched, I really did not expect to have such a spacious house. Since having a new house, my children and I have been excited, feel secure in our work, and life has become much less difficult. Thank you to the government and the people who have helped me to have today,” Ms. Duong shared tearfully.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nga is happy to have a new, spacious and sturdy house.

In Trung Tan village, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nga - an elderly, single woman who often suffers from illness and is under the protection of a guardian - has also received a new, spacious house worth more than 100 million VND, replacing her old, seriously degraded house. "Without the support of the government and the Front, I don't know how to manage. With a solid house, I feel secure and no longer have to worry about the rainy and stormy season," Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nga said emotionally.

These are two of dozens of poor households receiving housing support within the scope of the poverty reduction program of Ky Khang commune. Each person has a different situation but they all share the same happiness of living in their dream house.

Mr. Nguyen Phi Son - Secretary of Trung Tan village Party Cell shared: "Previously, in the village there were many households in extremely difficult circumstances, some of whom lived in temporary houses with leaky roofs, but the village did not have the means to help. Now, thanks to the program to support building houses for poor households, many families have been able to settle down. The houses are spacious, the village is brighter and more beautiful, and people feel secure in working and producing to escape poverty."

Over the past year, the commune has supported 85 poor and near-poor households with seedlings, livestock, and production means, with a total value of more than 425 million VND to create livelihoods for poor households to rise up.

The efforts and results achieved have contributed significantly to the sustainable poverty reduction of Ky Khang commune. If in 2020, the poverty rate of the 3 old communes (later merged into Ky Khang commune) was the highest in the old Ky Anh district (7.18%), then by 2025, the new Ky Khang commune will only have 3.42%.

Not only the poverty reduction numbers, the rural appearance of Ky Khang also changes day by day; the material and spiritual life of the people is increasingly improved. Poverty reduction and social security work in the area is guaranteed, creating conditions for people to have better and better access to basic social services. Many social policies have been put into practice, playing the role of a lever to support disadvantaged groups to rise up.
