The journey of 'Gieo Am Viet' ends with a spectacular contemporary folk performance

The finale of the reality show 'Gieo Am Viet' brought five explosive contemporary folk performances. This was a milestone for music producers to affirm their musical identity after more than a month of experience and creativity.

Despite the potential for renewing traditional music , many young music producers still lack materials, opportunities to access folk materials and a specialized playground. Having to "grope" in the treasure trove of Vietnamese music makes many people falter right from the starting line.

As one of the few reality shows dedicated to young music producers, throughout the 6 episodes of Gieo Am Viet, contestants have access to traditional musical instruments, listen to professional artists' instructions, and work directly with music director Hoaprox. From there, they learn how to apply folk materials in the right cultural spirit, without distortion or misrepresentation.

At the final night taking place on November 15, where the contestants brought five completely new contemporary folk songs, each performance was a musical picture with a subtle blend of tradition and modernity: folk melodies blended with contemporary harmonies and arrangements, lyrics exploiting Vietnamese cultural images, the performance combined images, lighting, props and stage art inspired by heritage.
