'Green Journey' inspires

QTO - In recent years, green agricultural production, organic and circular agriculture, has gradually become the mainstream trend, contributing to creating a foundation for sustainable agricultural development. The birth of the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) Program has further motivated businesses, cooperatives and households to "get involved" in green and organic agriculture; gradually improving the quality and value of products to develop the economy and enrich the homeland. And more importantly, preserving a clean, safe and sustainable environment for today and future generations.

The Pioneers

Talking about green agriculture , organic agriculture, and circular agriculture, besides large enterprises that have affirmed their brands such as Quang Tri Trading Corporation (Sepon Group), Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company with joint activities, accompanying households in the province, there are hundreds of cooperatives, cooperative groups, production facilities, households... that have made efforts and initially reaped many achievements.

On the pioneering journey towards green agriculture, along with basic advantages, if large enterprises have to face strategic difficulties, then for small enterprises, production facilities and households... the difficulties are even more complicated. Lack of capital, lack of knowledge and technology, difficulty in achieving certification of standards, small scale, dispersion, unstable and limited market... make the transition to green, organic and circular production more difficult than ever.

But on that journey, there have been names that have confidently affirmed their brands, and have been welcomed by the market and consumers. That is the Tuan Linh Clean Mushroom Production and Agricultural Business Cooperative (Dong Trach Commune), commonly known as "Tuan Linh Clean Mushroom". After 17 years of working in mushroom growing, Tuan Linh Clean Mushroom currently owns 14 3-4 star OCOP products, especially 2 potential 5-star products: Tuan Linh vegetarian fish sauce and Tuan Linh wood ear mushrooms.

With love for the land, love for the countryside and determination to bring useful products for health, creating a sustainable position for the cooperative, they have built a safe, closed production process, operating smoothly and rhythmically.

"It took us a long time to achieve our goal of providing the market with high-quality, clean products from the soil, raw materials, care processes, and without wasting by-products or releasing waste into the environment. Clean mushrooms are produced from sawdust and straw and go through the stages of packaging, sterilization, incubation, care, and harvesting. After the end of their life cycle, mushroom spawn will be composted and returned to take care of medicinal plants, which are important raw materials for products such as extract and tea bags of the cooperative. Hundreds of thousands of plastic bags covering mushroom spawn are classified and sold to recycling facilities. The sawdust and straw purchased by the cooperative also bring people additional income and contribute to environmental protection," said Ngo Thi Kim Lien, Executive Director of Tuan Linh Clean Mushroom Cooperative.

An Nong One Member Co., Ltd. has also spent nearly a decade steadfastly pursuing the goal of bringing safe agricultural products to consumers, ensuring health and nurturing the young generation in a peaceful environment. The efforts and dedication of Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy and Mr. Le Dinh Qua, two masters and agricultural engineers, have contributed to the successful creation of an agricultural value chain from building a model of organic agricultural production farms in Hoan Lao commune (formerly Hoa Trach commune). In addition, there is a system of clean food distribution stores in central wards, connecting reputable farming households and food production groups across the country, trusted by consumers.

It is a challenging but inspiring journey of the pioneers in green agricultural production. They have inspired many farmers to be creative, dedicated, and responsible for the land and the community. Learning, accumulating knowledge and experience, boldly investing, adhering to organic, closed production processes, turning local materials into quality, environmentally friendly products that are trusted by consumers is the direction of farmers in the new period. OCOP products are no longer strange, stories about circular production processes have become popular despite still being full of difficulties.

The inevitable path

Mr. Tran Tien Sy, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, affirmed that green agriculture, organic agriculture, and circular agriculture are inevitable paths, mandatory choices if we want sustainable development.

This development direction currently has advantages when the Resolution of the 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, identifies green agriculture as one of the four pillars of the economy . The Department of Agriculture and Environment also sets a goal by 2030 to build Quang Tri into a locality with strong development in green, safe, circular and sustainable agriculture, with over 70% of key products meeting organic or VietGAP standards.

To realize this goal, the department has built and deployed synchronous groups of solutions, from planning raw material areas, production, perfecting mechanisms and policies, promoting digital transformation in agriculture to supporting businesses, cooperatives and farmers to apply safe and organic production processes; expanding chain linkages and developing sustainable consumption markets.

On the market side, the demand for clean products is also increasing sharply as consumers are increasingly concerned about health, food safety, and traceability. The strong development of science and technology in agriculture, as well as the emergence of many effective green production models, has created more motivation for farmers and businesses to boldly convert. However, besides great opportunities, the transition to green agriculture still faces many difficulties such as high investment costs, unstable consumer markets, risks in production, and increasingly stringent standards...

To accompany farmers to overcome challenges, according to Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association Tran Tien Sy, the Association will promote its role in improving farmers' capacity through training, coaching, and inviting experts to provide technical guidance. Along with that, it will support market connections, especially through channels such as e-commerce platforms, safe agricultural product store chains, fairs, exhibitions, etc., to expand output and increase the value of green agricultural products.

Despite many challenges, the journey of developing green, organic, and circular agriculture in Quang Tri is becoming clearer and is becoming a driving force for the future. Enterprises, cooperatives, and individual producers will be empowered, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products, moving towards developing agriculture in harmony with nature, safe for people and sustainable for future generations.
