Kane's Curse
“I feel the fire burning inside me every time I think about the finals I lost, I want to go back and try to take another step forward,” Harry Kane said long ago.
These words may reflect the mood of any athlete who has experienced painful defeats that are “ forever engraved in life ” , but when uttered by Harry Kane, they evoke even more regret.

One of the greatest strikers in English history has been searching for a trophy for 14 years, with six final defeats during that time. A curse for Harry Kane.
If only considering the titles decided through the final, Kane failed with Tottenham twice in the League Cup ( Chelsea in 2015 ; Man City in 2021 ), 1 Champions League in 2019 ( Liverpool ); with England in the finals of EURO 2020 and 2024. At Bayern Munich, he lost on his debut in the German Super Cup in 2023 (RB Leipzig).
Kane's move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 is seen as a strategic move to end the worrying title drought.
Tottenham , with whom he has spent most of his career, have not won a trophy since 2008, while the Bavarians have won the Bundesliga for 11 consecutive seasons, and there is no sign that they will not win a 12th.
“The expectation here is to win every year, that's what I felt last season,” Kane shared in an interview with ESPN.
Last season, Bayer Leverkusen unexpectedly emerged with a historic unbeaten streak and eliminated Bayern Munich from the race. At that time, the curse on Harry Kane was mentioned even more.
“When we didn’t win the title, there was a lot of controversy around the team ,” Kane recalled. “That ’s fair . When you play in teams like this, the standards are always so high , both for yourself and the team.”

Goals and assists
The reality is that Kane has set a standard far above average. He is currently England's all-time leading goalscorer with 71 goals in 105 games.
In comparison, second-placed Wayne Rooney only had 53 goals in 120 games, while legend Bobby Charlton came third with 49 goals in 106 games.
Kane's goals have come at major tournaments like the 2018 World Cup or the recent EURO – where he was top scorer with 6 and 5 goals respectively (in Germany last summer , he shared the title with Spain's Dani Olmo ) .
At Tottenham and Bayern Munich, Kane has an impressive scoring record. In London , he is the greatest scorer in history with 280 goals and has won the Premier League's top scorer title three times.
He is also the second-highest scorer of all time in the Premier League, with 213 goals, behind only Alan Shearer (260). However, he has an efficiency of 0.67 goals/game, compared to 0.59 goals/game of the former Newcastle striker.
In his first season at Bayern, he scored 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga games – winning the European Golden Shoe; 44 goals in 45 games in all competitions. This season, he now has 36 goals.
But Kane is more than just a “ goal scorer ” . He has an excellent reading of the game, which often makes him one of the top assist makers for his team.

In the 2020/21 season , Kane was even the Premier League's top assist provider with 14 assists. At Tottenham, he had 59 assists in 435 games . At Bayern , he had 24 assists in 88 games.
All of that has helped Harry Kane turn his fortunes around. Despite a defeat to Leverkusen in the German Cup , and a Champions League quarter-final exit to Inter Milan, Bayern Munich have no rivals in the Bundesliga.
After a spectacular 3-3 chase with RB Leipzig, along with Leverkusen's 2-2 draw with Freiburg, Kane and his teammates officially became the owners of the 2024/25 Silver Plate.
At the start of the season, Kane's goal was to play Bayern in the Champions League final at home at the Allianz Arena. The dream was shattered, but the championship curse was broken by him with his first trophy at the age of 31.
Now it's time for Kane to enjoy the joy of victory, before joining Munich on a new conquest: the FIFA Club World Cup in the US.
