The complex of historical relics and scenic spots of the Ba Trieu Uprising National Monument covers an area of nearly 530 hectares, located on the Ngan Nua mountain range, within the communes of Tan Ninh, Mau Lam, and Trung Chinh, with a majestic mountainous terrain and magnificent natural landscape.

According to historical records, this is a sacred land associated with the uprising of Lady Trieu, a national hero who led an army against the Eastern Wu army in 248. Recently, Thanh Hoa province issued a comprehensive plan for the management, protection, exploitation, and promotion of the value of this historical site.

The plan aims to review and inventory all assets, artifacts, trees, and structures at the historical site, clarifying their origin, value, and legal status to develop appropriate management and preservation plans. Simultaneously, relevant agencies will create scientific documentation, mark boundaries for protection, and hand over the current state of the site for unified management and to prevent misuse.

The image shows the current state of the main temple on the summit of Nua Mountain. This temple was built with contributions from local people and has been renovated many times. Every year, on the 9th day of the first lunar month, the "opening of the gates of heaven" festival is held here, attracting thousands of locals and tourists from all over to offer incense and pray for peace.

Not far from the main temple is the "sacred spot." According to folk beliefs, the Am Tien area is considered one of the three most important sacred spots in the country, along with Da Chong Mountain ( Hanoi ) and Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh). Many people who visit Am Tien often walk around this area to pray for good luck and peace.

In the area surrounding the Am Tien burial site, many organizations and individuals have hired people to plant commemorative trees and erect memorial plaques within the site's grounds. The planting of trees at such a high density, unsuitable for the soil conditions, has resulted in many trees failing to thrive, detracting from the aesthetic appeal and negatively impacting the overall landscape of the site.

In response to this situation, the Management Board of Ho Citadel Heritage and Key Historical Sites of Thanh Hoa Province is sending staff to count the number of trees and stone steles around the Am Tien burial site, as a basis for developing a plan to renovate and rearrange them appropriately.

The temporary stalls and kiosks set up on both sides of the road leading to Am Tien, behind the main entrance gate, which previously caused offense to tourists, have now been dismantled by the Management Board.

According to the plan, the wind-blown tomb near Tien Well, part of the Am Tien historical site complex, is an illegally constructed structure and is being documented for demolition and restoration of the area to its original state.

Currently, there are still some makeshift shelters that have been built or expanded at the Am Tien historical site on Nua Mountain.

Currently, the Am Tien historical site is temporarily closed for renovation, beautification, and environmental cleaning, in preparation for welcoming locals and tourists during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026.

Nua Temple, an ancient architectural structure at the foot of Ngan Nua Mountain, is also included in the renovation plan to ensure a clean and beautiful appearance, preserving the solemnity of the religious space.

The restoration and renovation of historical sites must adhere to the principle of preserving the original value to the maximum extent, restoring ancient spiritual structures to their original state, and resolutely eliminating any illegal constructions. Simultaneously, it is necessary to review the overall planning, mobilize investment resources, and link heritage preservation with tourism and service development, creating sustainable livelihoods for local people.

Notably, in the Nua Mountain area, near Am Tien, the Huyen Tich Am Tien spiritual tourism complex project, with a total estimated investment of approximately 35,000 billion VND, is currently underway. The project includes many major components such as a cable car system and a 167.5-meter-tall bronze statue of the Great Buddha Vairocana, touted as the tallest in the world.

According to the plan, the Am Tien Legend project will be completed and put into operation in the period 2027-2030, expected to become a large-scale spiritual tourism destination, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists. However, along with the expectation of development, the requirement is to ensure harmony between investment and tourism exploitation with the preservation of the historical and cultural values of the Ba Trieu Uprising relic site, a special heritage of Thanh Hoa province.
