Coordinating the rescue of 5 fishermen whose fishing boat sank in the waters of Con Dao

On the morning of November 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard Command informed about the successful rescue of 5 fishermen whose boat sank in the waters of Con Dao special zone on November 16.

Initial information indicates that, The fishing vessel LA 99034 TS, captained by Mr. Vo Hong Chau (born in 1978; residing in Son Qui ward, Dong Thap province ), had 5 crew members and was engaged in single-trawl fishing. At approximately 11 PM on November 15th, while operating at sea about 6 nautical miles from Ben Dam Bay, Con Dao Special Economic Zone, the vessel LA 99034 TS began to take on water.

At 1:45 AM on November 16th, after the captain and crew members attempted to pump out water and other remedial measures without success, the fishing vessel sank. The captain then notified the authorities for assistance.

At 2:50 AM on November 16th, the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard Command received a report from the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 3 regarding the incident. They immediately directed the Con Dao Border Guard Station to promptly deploy rescue plans to save the fishermen in distress at sea. Simultaneously, they notified vessels operating near the accident area to provide assistance in rescuing the crew members of fishing vessel LA 99034 TS.

Through monitoring and reviewing the vessel tracking system, the unit requested two vessels operating near the area where fishing vessel LA 99034 TS was in distress, namely fishing vessel BV 95738 and fishing vessel TG 92308 TS, to urgently approach the scene to provide timely rescue and assistance.

After a period of urgent maneuvering, at approximately 3:35 AM, fishing vessel BV 95738 TS approached and rescued 4 crew members, while fishing vessel TG 92308 TS approached and rescued the captain. The crew members were then taken to Con Dao Island.

At approximately 8:00 AM the same day, rescue forces approached and carried out procedures to receive the five crew members of fishing vessel LA 99034 TS, and safely brought them to Ben Dam port in Con Dao Special Zone, Ho Chi Minh City. Preliminary examinations showed that the crew members' health was generally stable.

Currently, the Con Dao Border Guard Station has arranged accommodation and meals for the crew members at the unit and is working with the captain and crew members of the fishing vessel LA 99034 TS that was involved in the accident to verify and clarify the cause of the incident.
