Earlier, on the morning of January 28th, Nguyen Hieu Minh underwent surgery at Van Hanh Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City). Speaking to Thanh Nien newspaper, Dr. Pham Quoc Hung said the surgery lasted about an hour and a half due to the complex injury, which included a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn meniscus, but it was successful. He is expected to need about 10 months to be able to return to competition.

Under the regulations for national team players, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) covered all the costs of surgery and inpatient treatment for Hieu Minh.

Before his injury, Hieu Minh was a solid defensive anchor for the Vietnam U23 team in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the 33rd SEA Games, and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship. He was praised for his tenacious play, discipline, and high level of concentration in defensive situations.

Possessing a good physique and stable situational awareness, the center-back of PVF-CAND Club is frequently trusted by the coaching staff to start in important matches. Not only strong in one-on-one challenges, Hieu Minh also shows improvement in his ability to cover and command the defense.
