Efficiency of agricultural production focused on commodity orientation

In recent years, Lien Chau commune has become a bright spot in agricultural production development thanks to the orientation of building concentrated production areas associated with restructuring crops and livestock towards efficient commodities. This is an important step, contributing to increasing people's income and promoting the development of high value-added agricultural economy with sustainable efficiency.

Dynamic and creative countryside

When mentioning Lien Chau commune, many people know that this is a dynamic and creative countryside, leading in concentrated commodity production and building a model new rural area of the province. Although with the terrain of "knee on hill, foot bare in water", every rainy season the fields outside the sandbank are flooded, and the fields inside the fields have difficulty in water production, but there is a Lien Chau that is always innovative, creative and effective in shifting the agricultural economic structure. Since 1998, Lien Chau has implemented "land consolidation" to move towards concentrated commodity production, by 2005, the consolidation has been carried out from 9.5 plots/household before, now there are only 5 plots of both fields and sandbanks, creating opportunities for effective concentrated commodity production by region.

Efficiency of agricultural production focused on commodity orientation

The Buddha's hand garden of nearly 2 hectares of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan's family earns a profit of 200-300 million VND each year.

In recent years, Lien Chau has become a bright spot of the province in implementing the restructuring of varieties and crops, applying science and technology in effective agricultural production and building advanced and exemplary new rural areas. In the commune, there have appeared more than 20 production area models that have brought about clear economic efficiency such as: Buddha's hand planting model, pink banana, concentrated livestock farming, high-tech aquaculture. Typical is the clean vegetable growing model in the old Hong Phuong commune, providing a safe source of vegetables for consumers in and outside the district, or the Buddha's hand planting model of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan's family, on Ba Trai field, Nhat Chieu village. With more than 900 Buddha's hand trees on an area of nearly 2 hectares, Ms. Hoan earns a profit of 200 - 300 million VND per year.

Ms. Hoan said that in 2021, she discussed with her family about borrowing nearly 2 hectares of vacant land along the Red River from local people, investing nearly 2 billion VND to plant 900 Buddha's hand trees and purchasing machinery, building an irrigation system, and buying a truck to transport goods. Up to now, the Buddha's hand garden has yielded 3 harvest seasons, with a yield of 25-27 tons of fruit/year, with a selling price of 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg, earning about 200-300 million VND per year, ensuring regular jobs for 5 workers with an income of 5-7 million VND/person/month. It is worth mentioning that all the Buddha's hand fruits harvested are sold to businesses that process medicinal essential oils. Particularly during the Tet season, they are sold to people as ornamental fruits for Tet worship, with common prices ranging from 15,000 to 50,000 VND, even 100,000 VND/fruit.

Thanks to the synchronization in planning and application of scientific and technical advances, the total value of agricultural production in the first 9 months of 2025 of the whole commune reached 426.16 billion VND, the yield of grain crops reached 4.5 tons/ha, exceeding that of many neighboring localities.

Focus on effectively exploiting production potential

After merging with Dai Tu and Hong Phuong communes, Lien Chau commune has a total natural area of over 2,599 hectares, with a population of over 35,000 people, of which agricultural land is 1,765.6 hectares, accounting for more than 2/3 of the total area of the commune. With the advantage of fertile land and a favorable location adjacent to many communes in and outside the province, the commune has focused on planning and forming a concentrated livestock area with an area of 75.3 hectares; at the same time, maintaining and effectively developing 3 key agricultural production models including concentrated commodity crops such as Buddha's hand and export vegetables.

Chairman of Lien Chau Commune People's Committee Do Hai Dang said: Since 2013, Lien Chau has become one of the 8 regions where Hanoi's agricultural sector has successfully built a chain model from livestock farming to product consumption. Currently, Lien Chau commune has many production models that bring about clearly stable economic efficiency, opening up a direction for developing typical agricultural products to serve market demand such as: Clean vegetable growing model in the old Hong Phuong commune, chili growing model for export in the old Dai Tu commune. These models have affirmed the right direction of the commune in transforming the production structure, connecting farmers, cooperatives and enterprises, gradually forming a sustainable agricultural value chain. Maintaining the effectiveness of planned production areas, at the same time orienting specialized production according to VietGAP standards to improve product quality, meet market demand and open up opportunities to export typical local agricultural products.

To achieve the set goals, the commune has been focusing on promoting the purpose and significance of concentrated commodity production, regional planning and land management in accordance with the planning, ensuring economical and effective land use, serving socio-economic development. The government will strengthen disease control, support farmers in applying science and technology, aiming at producing clean, branded and highly competitive agricultural products. Continue to closely coordinate with units of the Hanoi agricultural sector, instructing farmers to focus on producing plants and breeds of high economic value...
