Formation of the Ca Na growth pole

With its synchronized combination of deep-water port infrastructure, large-scale industrial parks, and a new generation LNG power plant complex, Ca Na is asserting its position as an industrial-energy-logistics hub. It is expected to become a new economic growth pole, realizing the goal of double-digit growth for the locality.

Prospects for energy transfer stations

These days, the Ca Na Integrated Seaport Project is bustling with construction of pier 1B. Not far away, the Ca Na LNG Thermal Power Plant Project and the Ca Na Industrial Park are also clearing land and preparing for groundbreaking. All three of these major projects are directly invested in by Trung Nam Group. When completed and operational, these three projects will transform Ca Na into a major industrial, energy, and logistics complex for the province.

The Ca Na LNG Thermal Power Plant has a capacity of 1,500MW with a total investment of over 57,000 billion VND, invested by the Trung Nam - Sideros River joint venture. When operational, the project is expected to contribute approximately 9 billion kWh per year to the national power grid. However, the value of this mega-project lies not only in its capacity. According to the design, the complex possesses an extremely modern and integrated infrastructure system, including a 220,000m³ LNG storage tank, a regasification terminal with a capacity of 1.2 million tons/year, and a 2,400m long breakwater. The possession of a deep-water port capable of receiving ships with a tonnage of 300,000 to 500,000 tons will transform Ca Na into a strategic LNG hub. In the context of declining domestic gas supply, establishing a central storage facility here will ensure a stable fuel supply not only for the plant itself but also for the entire energy industrial cluster in the central and southern regions.

Mr. Nguyen Tam Thinh, Chairman of Trung Nam Group, shared that the energy, port, and industrial complex being formed in Ca Na is an important step in realizing the commitment of domestic enterprises. The company is not only building a thermal power plant but is striving to form a complete value chain from port - warehouse - factory to green industrial park. The fact that Trung Nam Group is currently constructing Port 1B provides a solid foundation for the company to confidently bring the entire complex into operation on schedule by 2030.

Beyond simply generating electricity, the Ca Na industrial-energy-logistics complex also carries the mission of reshaping the province's industrial map. With a total usable area of over 139 hectares, the Ca Na Industrial Park Project is the first building block for the Industrial and Renewable Energy Service Center. This center will provide logistics, assembly, and maintenance services for offshore wind power projects – a sector with enormous potential in Vietnam. Furthermore, the Ca Na General Seaport, once completed, will become a multi-functional hub for oversized and heavy equipment, serving not only the power industry but also the entire coastal economic zone.

Accelerate transformation

According to the leaders of Trung Nam Group, the Ca Na General Seaport Project was assigned to the company for investment and implementation, with two key sub-areas: berth 1A and berth 1B. Regarding berth 1A, the company completed it and officially put it into stable operation in 2023. Actual operational efficiency is very good, with cargo throughput continuously increasing strongly month by month, even reaching over 200% of the initial plan in some periods. Cumulatively, from the start of operation until early May 2026, nearly 3.5 million tons of cargo have passed through the port. For berth 1B, the construction unit is focusing all its efforts on the construction of the bored pile foundations and completing the land leveling work. According to the committed schedule, the entire berth 1B will be completed and operational before June 30, 2027.

Mr. Vu Van Nhuan, Director of the Ca Na General Seaport Project, stated that the biggest challenge currently is the supply of construction materials. Specifically, the project is facing a shortage of approximately 2 million cubic meters of crushed stone for embankment construction and land leveling. However, the unit has implemented an internal solution to optimize costs. Immediately after the Provincial People's Committee allocates land for the commencement of the Trung Nam Ca Na Industrial Park, the enterprise will utilize all surplus earth and stone from the industrial park's infrastructure leveling process to compensate for the port's shortage. This approach will completely resolve the land acquisition issue for both projects.

Besides the seaport, the industrial park and LNG power plant are also accelerating their implementation. For the industrial park, the investor has completed 100% of the necessary legal procedures and is currently awaiting the Provincial People's Committee's decision on land allocation and lease. According to the plan, in July, Trung Nam Group will simultaneously launch the Trung Nam Ca Na Industrial Park and activate the LNG power plant project. Regarding the LNG power plant project, alongside preparations for the groundbreaking, the company is finalizing the basic design documents and completing the environmental impact assessment report for submission to the relevant authorities, while also closely coordinating with the local authorities in compensation and land clearance.

The strong synergy between the component projects is creating economic power for the Ca Na growth pole. With the province's attention and the investor's accelerated progress, this complex possesses the most solid foundation for transformation. By optimizing infrastructure and connecting comprehensive logistics supply chains, Ca Na is emerging as a model of sustainable marine economic development, leading the breakthrough development of the locality in the coming decades.

Comrade TRINH MINH HOANG - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee: The locality is placing great expectations on the Ca Na industrial-energy-logistics complex in promoting economic growth. In particular, the Ca Na General Seaport plays a core logistics link. It is not only a transshipment point for goods within the Ca Na Industrial Park, but also a gateway for trade, serving all industrial parks and clusters in the surrounding area and neighboring economic zones. Without a large-capacity seaport, the flow of goods and energy for the entire region would be hampered. Currently, in addition to self-investment, businesses are stepping up trade promotion activities, attracting potential domestic and foreign secondary investors to the industrial park. This is a crucial step to successfully achieve the strategic goals of economic development, enabling the locality to achieve double-digit growth in the 2025-2030 period.
