'We do not blame the referee, the Vietnamese women's team lost regrettably', coach Mai Duc Chung commented
Coach Mai Duc Chung admitted in the post-match press conference: "We lost really regrettably because the goal came in the last minute. The two teams should have had a draw. We don't blame the referee for this match because we lost anyway. But there were a few situations where the referee was very tight for Vietnam and a bit loose for the Philippines. Even when Thanh Nha's shot hit the ball with her hand, the referee ignored it. The other team only had stature, high balls, and no coordination. Unfortunately, we lost in the last minute. Anyway, I accept responsibility for this loss."

Mr. Chung said he was quite worried at the beginning of the match when the opponent used his strength and strong legs to sweep the ball, causing difficulties for us: "There were times when I went through a tense time because the playing style that the whole team had practiced to counter the Philippines' passing and high kicking style was at times really confusing. The players tried very hard to control the ball and coordinate, but many times they were still hasty and could not escape the opponent's pressure," Mr. Chung emphasized.
"I admit that the substitutions were a bit passive, and there was no solution to overcome the midfield and forward areas. When Truc Huong was mentally ill, I was forced to make substitutions. Honestly, I wanted to bring in Ngoc Minh Chuyen to use his youth to attract her, but in the end I had to bring in Huynh Nhu because I wanted to take advantage of Nhu's experience."

Explaining the use of a new trio of central defenders in the match against the Philippines, Le Thi Diem My, Tran Hai Linh and Nguyen Thi Kim Yen, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "We had to change and put more experienced players in charge of the defense, Diem My playing as a sweeper and Kim Yen, a player with a relatively good physique who can compete more, to stick with the tall striker. As for Hai Linh, I brought her back to play as a central defender to increase the stability of the back line. These changes are to deal with an opponent with such good stature as the Philippines, trying to limit their destructive power with strength and the ability to press."

Why did we use so many high balls in the first half, coach Mai Duc Chung explained: "High balls are not our strong point, but I asked to limit them as much as possible. Unfortunately, the players still played spontaneously at times, using high balls too much. By using this method, I understand that your purpose is to push their formation back, limiting their ability to advance. But that is not suitable for us."

Thanh Nha attacked along the corridor very aggressively.

Some positions revealed psychological problems, will he continue to adjust the formation and approach of the Vietnamese women's team in the next match? Coach Mai Duc Chung admitted: "In a big match, it is difficult to avoid mistakes. Especially the new players, with little experience in competition, are very susceptible to psychological problems. They tried very hard but it is hard to blame. The problem is that we immediately realized it and made the necessary adjustments."

With 3 points, the Vietnamese women's team is temporarily ranked second in Group B. To reach the semi-finals, the Vietnamese girls must beat Myanmar in the match at 4 p.m. on December 11. Coach Mai Duc Chung acknowledged: "There is still a chance to continue if we beat Myanmar. Because our goal difference is good compared to Myanmar. This will be another difficult match for us. The whole team has more than 2 days to prepare carefully for this match. We will have to try our best."
