BG Pathum United has decided to sack coach Masatada Ishii after a disappointing season, particularly being eliminated from the Southeast Asian Champions League, losing in the League Cup and the Asian Cup Winners' Cup, meaning the team has been knocked out of three competitions.
Meanwhile, Pathum's chances of winning the Thai League title are almost gone as they are now 14 points behind Buriram at the top of the table. Pathum's only remaining hope is to compete in the Muang Thai Cup. That is why Masatada Ishii lost his job.
Ishii has led the team in a total of 20 matches, winning 10, drawing 5, and losing 5. Recently, Pathum has shown a clear improvement, remaining unbeaten in their last 5 matches, including 3 wins. However, they have still been unable to improve their competitiveness in various competitions. Most recently, Pathum drew 1-1 with Selangor and were eliminated from the Southeast Asian Champions League.

Masatada Ishii lost his job just 99 days after taking office on October 30 last year. This dismissal damaged his image within Thai football.
Masatada Ishii has experience working with Thai football, having managed several clubs, starting with Samut Prakan City before achieving outstanding success with Buriram United, winning numerous league and cup titles. He also led the Thai national team to the Round of 16 at the 2023 Asian Cup.
However, after two heavy defeats in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2024 ASEAN Cup, Ishii lost his job. And with Pathum's dismissal, it can be said that his reputation in Thailand and Southeast Asia has been severely damaged by these recent dismissals.
