According to the recently announced Henley Passport Index, Vietnam's passport ranks 90th, down 3 places compared to the previous announcement.
The Henley Passport Index is considered one of the most powerful passport rankings in the world . This list has been conducted by the global residence and citizenship advisory firm Henley & Partners, headquartered in London (UK), since 2005.
The Henley Passport Index measures the power of a passport based on the number of destinations the holder can visit without a prior visa.
With this ranking, Vietnamese citizens can enter 51 destinations without a visa or only need to apply for an e-visa, border visa, or electronic travel permit out of a total of 199 countries and territories.
Meanwhile, according to the ranking announced in January, when holding the 87th position, Vietnamese citizens will be exempted from visas at 55 destinations.
Some destinations that Vietnamese citizens can enter without a visa or only need an e-visa, a border visa such as: Barbados, Bolivia, Brunei, Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde Islands, Chile, Comoro Islands, Cook Islands, Djibouti, Dominica, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Iran, Indonesia, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Panama, Philippines, Suriname...
Only In Southeast Asia, the Vietnamese passport ranks above Laos (at 92nd) and Myanmar (at 93rd). Singapore continues to be the country with the most powerful passport in the region and in the world, with its citizens exempted from visas to 195 countries and territories.
Malaysia's passport is the second most powerful in Southeast Asia, with visa-free access to 183 countries and territories. Next is Brunei with 166 visa-free destinations. Thailand ranks fourth in the region with 82 countries exempting visas for its citizens.
Also according to the Henley Passport Index ranking, the 5 countries with the lowest passports are Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Pakistan.
