Ke Go Lake - a prominent ecological, cultural and historical space of Ha Tinh

Less than 20 km from the center of Ha Tinh city, Ke Go lake has long become one of the important scenic spots of the province, a place where the wild natural beauty converges with the depth of culture and history.

With convenient transportation, visitors can easily access by many means, making this place an ideal choice for short trips, weekend getaways or experiential journeys for students.

Ke Go Lake has a large and impressive space. The lake is nearly 30 km long, with a capacity of more than 300 million m3 of water, surrounded by the majestic Truong Son range and a diverse natural forest ecosystem. This is an important part of Ke Go Nature Reserve - where hundreds of rich species of flora and fauna are recorded, including many rare species that need to be protected. The harmony between the immense water surface, deep green forests and typical mountainous terrain has created a natural picture that is both wild and romantic.

Although it is an artificial reservoir, Ke Go has a beauty no less than that of ancient natural lakes. The lake space stretches between mountains and forests, the clear blue water surface combined with the winding hillsides creates a cool, peaceful landscape. The lake also plays an important role in regulating the regional climate and maintaining the stability of the downstream ecosystem, contributing to ensuring water sources for daily life and production for the people.

Visitors to Ke Go Lake can immediately feel the fresh, cool atmosphere, typical of the Truong Son ecological region. Walking around the lake, watching the dark green hills reflected on the calm water surface or listening to the birds calling from the forests are experiences that help dispel stress and bring people closer to nature. This is also a suitable place for camping, taking photos, boating, sightseeing or organizing environmental education activities for students.

Besides its ecological value, Ke Go Lake also has special cultural and spiritual significance, clearly demonstrated through the presence of the temple of the late General Secretary Le Duan. The building is solemnly placed in the middle of the tranquil lake, as a deep gratitude from the Party Committee and people of Ha Tinh for the steadfast leader who devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause. The quiet and solemn temple space contributes to creating cultural depth for the area, and is also an important red address in programs to return to the source and study history.

Not only that, the Ke Go lake area is also associated with a special historical mark from the period of resistance against the US. This was once the place where Libi field airport was built - a project of strategic significance and also a target of fierce attacks by enemy air forces. During the construction process, many cadres, workers and youth volunteers heroically sacrificed their lives to protect the construction site.

To commemorate those contributions, a memorial complex including a shrine and a martyrs' temple was built and ranked as a provincial historical relic. The complex has become a sacred destination, a place to educate the younger generation about patriotic traditions.

With the orientation of sustainable tourism development, Ke Go Lake is gradually being included in the group of key tourism products by Ha Tinh province. Activities such as offering incense at temples, visiting conservation areas, experiencing ecology, camping by the lake, or journeying to the source at historical sites are all organized regularly, attracting a large number of tourists and groups. The natural beauty combined with historical-cultural values has created a unique attraction that not all tourist areas have.

In the future, investment in completing infrastructure, upgrading specific tourism products as well as protecting the intact forest-lake space will play an important role in more effectively exploiting Ke Go's potential.

From a land that once suffered many bombs and bullets, this place has transformed into a green space, rich in educational and experiential values, contributing to shaping the image of a dynamic, attractive and unique Ha Tinh./.
