Mr. VNL (64 years old), residing in Thoi Lai commune, Can Tho city, was hospitalized in a state of poor health due to a persistent dry cough, occasional phlegm and mild fever that lasted for many months.
Despite outpatient treatment at many medical facilities, the patient's condition did not improve, affecting the patient's quality of life.
In particular, Mr. L. is a patient with many complex underlying diseases, including: high blood pressure, diabetes and ischemic heart disease. This poses a great challenge to the treatment team, requiring caution.
Through in-depth examination and imaging techniques, doctors at Can Tho Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital discovered that a foreign object stuck in the airway was the main cause of the above symptoms. Immediately, the bronchoscopy intervention team was activated urgently.

The team including Dr. Tran Thanh Hung, Deputy Director of the hospital; Dr. Nguyen Hung Thanh Tung and Nurse Do Thi Chinh performed endoscopy to remove the foreign object to completely resolve the airway obstruction and prevent the risk of serious complications such as infection, pneumonia or respiratory failure.
Dr. Tran Thanh Hung said: "The success of this foreign object removal case once again affirms the professional capacity and smooth coordination of the medical team at Can Tho Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital, especially when handling complicated cases on elderly patients with many chronic diseases."
After the intervention, Mr. L's health improved significantly, his cough reduced significantly and he is recovering steadily. Doctors recommend that when people experience symptoms of an unusually prolonged cough that cannot be cured after treatment in many places, they should immediately go to a respiratory specialist to be examined and promptly detect the cause, avoiding dangerous complications.
