Miss Asia 1991 La Lam has just shared a picture of her eldest son graduating with a master's degree. For her, this is a proud achievement for the mother and son after a long period of hardship.

In 1996, La Lam married businessman Lau Ming Kun - a tycoon in the restaurant industry in Hong Kong. She and her husband have 3 sons. She thought that the beauty queen would have a comfortable life by marrying into a wealthy family, but her dream was soon shattered.
In 2013, her husband filed for divorce, leaving La Lam in a state of mental and financial turmoil. For many years, La Lam had to be a single mother, working alone to earn money to take care of her children. Meanwhile, her ex-husband, although rich, did not provide a single penny for child support, ignoring his responsibility as a father.
In an interview, the beauty queen revealed that her husband abused her throughout their marriage. At the worst, he even had an affair and filed for divorce.
La Lam fought for her rights. However, she was helpless and lost because she did not have the finances to pay for the lawsuit and the lawyer's fees.
"They had a plan while I was completely clueless. The lawyer even advised me to give up because my ex-husband's family had money and time, but I had no money and had to work to raise my children," she recounted.
Life as a single mother is difficult in many ways. La Lam once faced a dead end because she did not have enough money to raise her child. She revealed that due to poor health, little work, and decreasing income.

La Lam’s only consolation is that all three children are well-behaved and good at studying. While the eldest son has a master’s degree, the second son is a psychologist who is now married and settled in the US. Her youngest son, Jonathan, studies business at Hong Kong Baptist University.
