As planned, on the morning of December 7, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation officially departed for Thailand to attend the 33rd SEA Games. It is expected that the delegation will have about 200 members attending the Opening Ceremony held in Bangkok on December 9.
Notably, the two athletes assigned to hold the flag for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the opening ceremony of this Congress are Le Thanh Thuy (volleyball) and Le Minh Thuan (karate) - outstanding faces not only in terms of expertise but also in terms of ethics and lifestyle and competition.

Two years ago, this honor belonged to swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang - who twice in a row (SEA Games 31 in 2022 and SEA Games 32 in 2023) took on this important role.
Blocker Le Thanh Thuy is a mainstay of the national women's volleyball team. This SEA Games marks her return after an 8-year absence.
Meanwhile, martial artist Le Minh Thuan - captain of the national karate team, is one of the veteran and exemplary faces of the Vietnamese martial arts community. He won a gold medal at the 29th SEA Games in 2017 and was evaluated by the coaching staff as a highly skilled, exemplary martial artist with a positive influence on the younger generation.
Currently, both Le Thanh Thuy and Le Minh Thuan are focusing on the national team, actively training with the determination to achieve high results at this year's Congress.
At the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation participated with a total of 1,165 members (including leaders, officials, coaches, athletes, doctors, logistics...). In this list, the Department of Physical Training and Sports took care of expenses such as airfare, food, accommodation, pocket money, communication costs... according to regulations for 952 members. The remaining 213 members participated with local or socialized funds...
The Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation is Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh (Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Department), 3 Deputy Heads of the Delegation are Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh, Mr. Le Thanh Ha and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Long, 21 delegation officers.
According to the original plan, the 33rd SEA Games was held from December 9 to December 20 in the cities of Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla. However, due to the historic floods in Songkhla, all the competitions held there were moved to Bangkok.
SEA Games 33 has 50 official sports, 574 events with a total of 569 sets of medals. In addition, the regional sports festival also organizes 3 demonstration sports: discus throw, tug of war, and aerial sports. The Vietnamese sports delegation competes in 47 events, aiming to win 90-110 gold medals.
