Hoa Lu promotes homestay business model

Việt NamViệt Nam19/04/2024

After 10 years of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage, tourism activities in the province in general and Hoa Lu district in particular have developed strongly. In particular, the homestay business model (a form of accommodation business where guests stay and live together with the host) is increasingly attracting visitors, creating a community livelihood, bringing practical benefits to the people, contributing to promoting socio -economic development in the area.

Ninh Hai Commune has a large area in the core area of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, especially Tam Coc Bich Dong Tourist Area, which attracts a large number of tourists. This is also one of the starting points of the homestay business model in the province. In particular, many establishments run by local people are developing quite well, generating hundreds of millions of VND/year.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, owner of Tam Coc Melody homestay, Ninh Hai commune, shared: My family has been running a homestay business since 2017. Before that, my husband and I both worked as hired workers in Hanoi, my parents worked in agriculture locally, and our income was unstable. Realizing that the number of tourists visiting was increasing, my family proactively consulted, learned from experience and knowledge, and boldly switched to homestay business.

The entire homestay area of Mr. Nghia's family is more than 1,000 m2, including 15 rooms, a large swimming pool, garden, walking area, cooking area, outdoor entertainment area and accompanying services such as breakfast, motorbike and bicycle rental... With a creative approach, Mr. Nghia's family homestay always has a stable number of guests, mainly foreign guests. In 2023, his family achieved a revenue of over 1 billion VND. In addition, it creates quite stable jobs for 4 family workers and 3 local workers, with an average income of 7-10 million VND/person/month for each outsourced worker.

Currently, many households in the commune also implement the homestay model like Mr. Nghia's family and all bring high economic efficiency. To help the business achieve better efficiency, Mr. Nghia's family and some other homestay owners together contribute efforts and funds to build lighting lines on some roads; at the same time, plant many flowers and trees, creating an ecological, friendly environment, attracting tourists.

Ninh Thang is a commune with an area mainly in the buffer zone of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex. In recent years, Ninh Thang has become a land with great potential in developing tourism, especially in the form of homestay, with unique services.

Homestays in Hoa Lu district are beautifully designed, close to nature, creating satisfaction for visitors.

Ms. La Thi Thu Trang, owner of Tam Coc Relax homestay (Tuan Cao village) said: My family has been operating homestay services since 2022. During the business process, we always focus on renovating the landscape, strictly complying with State regulations on business activities in the Heritage area; proactively participating in training courses to provide better services to tourists. Through websites such as booking, agoda..., the homestay always maintains a stable number of guests, along with taking advantage of family labor, the average monthly revenue is from 25-30 million VND. The homestay business helps my family increase income and have more joy.

According to Mr. Hoang Ngoc Hoa, Vice Chairman of Hoa Lu District People's Committee: The homestay business model is an advantage for local people to develop the local economy, creating sustainable livelihoods for the community. "Leaving agriculture but not leaving the homeland" - people leave agriculture to work in services without having to leave their homeland. Taking advantage of the available advantages of landscape and ecosystems in the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex to develop tourism, increase family income, and create jobs for local workers with incomes much higher than agricultural production.

In 2023, the average income per capita in the district will reach 69.5 million VND/person, exceeding the set plan. Not only that, the development of homestay models also helps create environmental landscapes, contributing to the construction of new-style rural areas and advanced new rural areas in the district. At the same time, it helps people improve their understanding and awareness of protecting ecological environmental resources, preserving and promoting cultural heritage values.

Currently, in Hoa Lu district, there are about 150 licensed homestay businesses. In order for homestays to operate effectively, in recent years, Hoa Lu has always focused on management as well as propaganda and guidance for establishments to comply with regulations; at the same time, it has paid attention to and created the best conditions for implementing related administrative procedures; and strengthened tourism promotion to attract tourists to the area. Along with that, the District People's Committee has paid attention to investing in developing traffic infrastructure, signs, lighting, etc. connecting to tourist areas, destinations, accommodation establishments, homestays, etc. to facilitate people's activities as well as tourism business.

In the coming time, Hoa Lu district will continue to strengthen the propaganda and dissemination of laws to the people in general, and owners of accommodation establishments and homestays in particular, on the State's regulations on tourism business and accommodation. Organize a review of homestays in need of construction and repair to ensure criteria for support according to Resolution No. 105/2023/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council. Focus on guiding tourist accommodation establishments to complete registration procedures for classification according to regulations. At the same time, strengthen the inspection and management of homestays; resolutely handle establishments that deliberately do not comply with the State's regulations on tourism accommodation business in heritage areas.
