On July 23, in the Lao capital Vientiane, a meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials (SOM) took place to review and complete all aspects of preparations for the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM). 7th and related conferences.
Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet, Head of Vietnam's ASEAN SOM, led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the meeting.
Heads of ASEAN SOMs of countries sent their deep condolences to the Government and People of Vietnam on the passing of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong on July 19, 7.
On behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet spoke respectfully and thanked the countries for their sharing and sympathy during this sad moment.
Emphasizing that the AMM-57 Conference and related Conferences are the most important series of activities of the year for the Ministers diplomatic ASEAN and its member countries highly appreciated the thorough and comprehensive preparations by the Lao Chairman, affirming their support and close coordination in the spirit of solidarity and cooperation, contributing to the overall success of the Conferences.
With the theme "ASEAN: Promoting connectivity and self-reliance", ASEAN Foreign Ministers and partners will discuss the implementation of ASEAN's focuses and priorities in 2024, and the process of building a ASEAN Community. ASEAN Community, reviewing and orienting cooperation between ASEAN and partners and discussing international and regional situations.
The Conferences will adopt many important documents as a basis for implementing cooperation between ASEAN and between ASEAN and its partners in the coming time.
According to the program, the AMM-57 Conference and related conferences will take place from July 24-27 at the National Convention Center of Laos, including about 7 activities within the frameworks of ASEAN, ASEAN+20, ASEAN+1, East Asia Summit (EAS) and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
Also on July 23, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet and Heads of SOM of ASEAN countries attended the meeting of the Executive Board of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Treaty (SEANWFZ) to discuss the implementation of the Plan. SEANWFZ action plan for the period 7-2023 and improve cooperation efficiency in the coming time.
