Completion of drilling journey for 4 underground stations of Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station Metro Project

On December 1, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB) announced that on the same morning, the first TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), named "Speed", officially reached the finish line at S12 station - Hanoi station, completing the entire drilling journey through 4 underground stations of the Nhon - Hanoi station urban railway line 3 (metro) project.

TBM No. 1 started its journey from station S9 (Kim Ma) on July 30 and has now completed the entire tunnel drilling journey, passing through 4 underground stations S9 (Kim Ma), S10 (Cat Linh), S11 (Van Mieu) and S12 ( Hanoi station).

This is the first time in Hanoi that TBM tunneling technology has been used to construct underground in the central urban area, passing through areas with high population density, special technical infrastructure and cultural heritage. The journey of “Lightning Speed” marks an important step forward in the construction progress of the nearly 4 km long underground section of the project, and at the same time opens a new milestone in the capacity of constructing underground urban works in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Head of MRB, over the past months, TBM No. 1 has operated safely, installing 1,720 tunnel lining rings, strictly complying with technical, safety and environmental standards, ensuring safety for above-ground works, especially when passing through densely populated areas and many heritage works. After finishing drilling at S12 station - Hanoi station, the drilling head of TBM No. 1 will be dismantled at this station, the remaining auxiliary equipment system will be pulled back and continue to be dismantled at S9 station - Kim Ma.

MRB representative also said that the successful construction process has contributed to affirming the capacity of domestic engineers and contractors when coordinating with international experts, thereby creating a solid foundation for Vietnamese people to master complex infrastructure construction technologies. In parallel, TBM2 - "Bold" is also working hard to construct the remaining tunnel section. TBM2 is continuing its journey to station S11.

As of December 1, the overall construction progress of CP03 package - Tunnels and underground stations of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station Metro project reached more than 72%. After the TBM1 milestone, MRB representatives will continue to coordinate with related units to speed up the progress of the remaining underground section, ensuring quality - safety - efficiency to soon put the entire line into operation.
