Exactly 53 years ago, on November 14, 1972, while on duty to ensure traffic on the vital Truong Son route, 8 youth volunteers and 5 artillery soldiers were buried by American bombs, forever lying in a cave. Their sacrifice has become an immortal symbol of loyalty, bravery and the will to "cut through Truong Son to save the country".

From 1966 to 1973, Route 20 Quyet Thang was one of the most fiercely attacked areas of the US Air Force. Tens of thousands of soldiers, Youth Volunteers, and frontline workers exchanged their blood, sweat, and tears to keep the traffic arteries open. Every inch of land here is imbued with the spirit of Truong Son, creating the heroic song of a generation who "went without regretting their lives".

The Eight Ladies Cave was ranked as a special national monument by the Prime Minister under Decision 2383/QD-TTg dated December 9, 2013. This is a memorial site and has become a sacred destination in the journey of traditional education for the younger generation, reminding them of the value of independence and freedom.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Phong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province emphasized: "The completion of the restoration project of the Eight Ladies Cave relic is a deep gratitude of the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Tri to those who sacrificed their youth and blood for the Fatherland; at the same time, it demonstrates the responsibility to preserve and promote the historical and cultural values of the heroic land".

Before the inauguration ceremony, on November 8, Quang Tri province held a memorial service and burial ceremony for the martyrs' remains gathered in the cave area. According to the wishes of the relatives, the province coordinated with GeneStory Joint Stock Company to conduct DNA testing from socialized sources, and the results of the testing samples all matched the relatives of 8 families. The relatives of the 8 martyrs shared the same wish to build a common grave at the location of Hang Tam Co for convenience in offering incense.

The remains and relics were buried in a common grave built right in front of the Eight Ladies Cave as a reminder of their complete return after more than half a century lying in the heart of Truong Son.
