Refund of more than 37 billion VND in tuition fees collected illegally at Thu Dau Mot University

Accordingly, students currently studying will have the refund deducted from their tuition fees for the 2025-2026 school year. For students who have graduated, dropped out or suspended their studies, the school will pay directly after the student has completed all debts (if any) and provided full personal information, including ID card, account number and bank name. The school also noted that the account number must belong to the student, still in use, and no borrowed accounts are accepted.

The deadline for updating information is November 30, 2025. After this date, the school will not process refunds for cases where the correct and complete information is not provided as instructed. The amount that cannot be paid will be paid to the state budget according to regulations. The school will compare the data and make payments no later than December 15, 2025.

Previously, the State Audit announced the audit conclusion for the 2015-2021 period at Thu Dau Mot University, determining that the unit collected more than 37 billion VND in violation of regulations in the two school years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. After the conclusion, the school paid the entire amount to the budget.

Explaining the incorrect collection and refund, a representative of Thu Dau Mot University said that at the time of collecting tuition fees, the unit had not yet implemented autonomy and was still receiving budget support. The transition period to financial autonomy caused the discrepancy. After submitting the budget according to the audit conclusion, the school continued to take steps to refund students according to regulations.

In the first phase, the school completed the procedures and transferred more than 21 billion VND to over 10,000 students. According to the school's leadership representative, the refund process took a long time because it had to review the list, verify student accounts and complete all procedures according to State regulations.
