Despite facing many challenges, border communes in Da Nang city still strive to implement a two-session/day teaching program to improve the quality of comprehensive education for students in mountainous areas.
At Nguyen Ba Ngoc Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, Avuong Commune, with 314 students, most of whom are ethnic minority children whose homes are dozens of kilometers away from the school, implementing 2-session teaching/day faces many difficulties in terms of facilities and teaching staff.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Que, Principal of the school, shared: “We have taken advantage of support resources, surveyed the opinions of parents, students and teachers to agree on a suitable teaching plan. For now, we will arrange to teach 2 classes of grade 9, harmoniously combining theory and extracurricular activities, avoiding overload for students and teachers.”
Mr. Tran Huu Nhat, Principal of Bhalêê Primary Boarding School (Avuong Commune), affirmed that the policy of teaching two sessions per day is correct and deeply humane.
According to Mr. Nhat, this helps students consolidate knowledge, practice life skills and participate in experiential and physical activities, contributing to comprehensive development.
The school flexibly classifies students according to their abilities, enhances Vietnamese language teaching and tutors weak students in the afternoon, and creates a friendly communication environment to help Co Tu ethnic students become more confident.
However, the implementation still faces many difficulties due to the low teacher-to-class ratio and increased number of class hours, causing pressure on payment of benefits and socialization of education.
“We have to mobilize parents and local resources to maintain English classes, but difficult economic conditions make this not easy,” Mr. Nhat shared.
Mr. Alang Aray, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Avuong Commune, said that the commune has 5 schools with nearly 1,250 students. The commune government has supported the repair of facilities, supplemented equipment and recruited 8 more contract teachers to overcome the shortage of human resources.
Thanks to that, the quality of local education has gradually improved, students are more diligent and the rate of weak students has significantly decreased.

“Maintaining two sessions a day not only helps students master knowledge but also forms comprehensive qualities and abilities, meeting the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive educational innovation today,” Mr. Alang Aray emphasized.
In the border commune of Hung Son, Ly Tu Trong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities is also making efforts to maintain the 2-session/day program.
Mr. Huynh Phuoc Tai, the school’s principal, said that he has made full use of the classrooms to arrange for the 9th grade class to study 2 sessions to consolidate knowledge and tutor weaker students. The local support to recruit more teachers has partly overcome the shortage of human resources.
Hung Son commune has 7 schools with 41 campuses, 82 classrooms and nearly 1,700 students. Despite the difficult travel conditions, the spirit of overcoming difficulties of teachers and students here is spreading strongly, demonstrating the determination to bring knowledge closer to students in the mountainous border areas.
The policy of teaching two sessions a day is gradually becoming an important step in the journey to improve the quality of education in disadvantaged areas of Da Nang, affirming the efforts of the government, the education sector and the teaching staff in bringing an equal and comprehensive learning environment for all students.
Since July 1, Da Nang has been the largest city among the six centrally-run cities, with an area of over 11,859 square kilometers, a population of over 3 million people, and 94 commune-level administrative units.
