Journeys with a common mission: From dreams to actions

On the afternoon of November 26, SCG Group coordinated with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Central Council of the Young Pioneers to organize the SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship award ceremony in Hanoi.

For 18 years, the program has become a solid support for more than 6,000 students nationwide with a total value of up to 40 billion VND.

The three stories below are clear evidence of the humanistic value and sustainable influence of scholarships.

The story of Nguyen Tuan Tu, a 5th grade student at Tu Cuong Primary School ( Hai Phong ), left many emotions. Tu grew up in extremely difficult circumstances: his father was seriously ill, his younger sister had brittle bones, and all the burdens fell on his mother's shoulders.

But adversity became the motivation to help him mature early, strive to maintain excellent academic performance and nurture his dream of becoming a Literature teacher.

At the scholarship awarding ceremony, Tu shared: Knowing that my father and sister are sick and only my mother can take care of them, I told myself to be independent so that my mother would worry less. Sometimes I feel tired and sad, but seeing my father and sister in pain makes me try harder. Receiving the SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship is a source of comfort and pride for the whole family.”

For Tu, the scholarship not only reduces the material burden but also gives him the belief that every effort is worth it.

The story of Duong Thi My Hong, a third-year student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, is also inspiring. Having lost her father at a young age, she considers her mother the greatest support in her life.

“My mother always taught me to hold my head up high and believe in myself no matter what the circumstances. When I received the SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship, my mother was very happy because it was not only financial support but also recognition of my efforts,” Hong shared.

From that source of motivation, Hong gradually conquered proud milestones: becoming ASEAN ESG Ambassador 2024, participating in the B-Wings project - a warning device for the visually impaired - winning the ASEAN Second Prize, and spreading the ESG spirit to the student community.

The scholarship has opened up opportunities for Hong to hone ESG skills, participate in community activities, and build confidence to realize her dream of contributing to society.

Continuing, the journey of maturity of Vo Thanh Hung - a former student receiving the scholarship in 2018-2021 has clearly illustrated the long-term value of the scholarship. Thanh Hung currently works at the Project Management Department of Duy Tan Plastic Production Joint Stock Company, a member company of SCG Group.

Hung still remembers the first days of entering the university with full of anxiety: “Luckily receiving a scholarship, I not only received financial support but also guidance on personal development. During the 4 years, SCG Sharing the Dream helped me understand my strengths and what I needed to improve. That was a great foundation to help me grow up.”

From books to the working environment, Hung always maintains the ESG spirit that SCG aims for and the desire to spread positive values, this is what he was nurtured from the program.

SCG Sharing the Dream: Spreading humane and sustainable values

Established in 2007, the SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship carries the mission of “leaving no one behind”. After 18 years, the program not only awards scholarships but also organizes a series of rich activities: ESG training, skill workshops, factory tours, personal mentoring, and support for community project implementation.

Ms. Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union, President of the Central Council of the Young Pioneers, emphasized: “SCG Sharing the Dream has become a beautiful symbol of the spirit of sharing. The program helps many children overcome difficulties to pursue their dreams, while also training sustainable thinking and community spirit.”

Not only does it provide financial support, the scholarship also creates conditions for students, especially orphans, ethnic minority students, and people with disabilities, to develop their creativity, ESG thinking, and innovation capabilities. Feasible community projects are sponsored by SCG to be implemented in practice, helping students learn how to turn ideas into concrete social impacts.

SCG also extends practical support through a personal mentoring system, academic tutoring, foreign language activities, on-site experiences, and expert connections. Each activity aims at a common goal: building a young generation with a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and sustainable thinking.

Follow up scholarship with comprehensive training program

Continuing this journey, SCG continues to develop programs at each level. Students will participate in intensive ESG training, community project design, workshops with experts, and practice at the factory. Feasible projects will be sponsored by SCG for implementation.

Mr. Kulachet Dharachandra, Country Director of SCG Group in Vietnam, said: “Green and sustainable issues are becoming increasingly important and the current young generation is open, interested and proactive in these changes, because that is their future.

So we want to inspire you, to equip you with the necessary skills. We are exploring new skill sets for the future, such as AI skills.

In the upcoming scholarship seasons, we hope to be able to integrate content on ESG, on AI adaptability - capabilities that will certainly be important in the future. This is one of the development directions that we are implementing."

From the story of Nguyen Tuan Tu - a boy who overcame difficulties, to My Hong - a student who grew up with determination, and then to Vo Thanh Hung - a young engineer who rose from a scholarship, SCG Sharing the Dream has become a flame of inspiration for thousands of young people.

After 18 years of companionship, the program not only promotes learning but also inspires a spirit of responsible living, sustainable thinking and the desire to contribute to the community - values that will follow the children throughout their future journey.
