Teachers have more time to supplement knowledge for students
Implementing two-session teaching per day creates conditions for schools to organize many educational activities, especially experiential activities and life skills education for students.
According to Ms. Phan Thi Xuan Thu - Principal of Phuc Dong Primary School (Phuc Loi Ward, Hanoi ), the school has been implementing two-session teaching for many years, so we realize that the implementation will reduce pressure on students to complete lessons in class, consolidate knowledge as well as for students who are slow learners, teachers will have more time to supplement knowledge for them.
It is known that classrooms and facilities for teaching two sessions a day at Phuc Dong Primary School are always guaranteed. However, the school also faces some difficulties such as the number of teachers is not enough to ensure (currently 1.5 teachers/class).
Therefore, the school has to contract teachers, especially lacking teachers for gifted subjects and English. Besides, the primary level has mostly female teachers, many teachers on maternity leave in the same school year will also be difficult for the school.
“The standard number of lessons for a basic teacher is 23/week, but in reality, according to the 2-session/day schedule, a basic teacher needs to teach 25-26 lessons/week to meet the required number of lessons (32 lessons/week). Conditions for open space, outdoor equipment, and electronic devices for individual learning to organize experiential activities are still limited,” said Ms. Thu.

Building a learning movement
According to Ms. Pham Thi Xuan, Principal of Dao San Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Lai Chau), when implementing two-session teaching per day, the school has an advantage in building the unit's learning movement and improving the quality of mass education for students.
School facilities and equipment are used regularly, making maximum use of their functions for educational activities.
For teachers, there is more time to nurture the quality of good students and to train the quality of weak students. Students have time to study and practice, especially to participate in educational activities outside of class, to participate in experiential activities, and to practice life skills.
Students have many opportunities to interact, helping them improve their communication skills and Vietnamese language skills.
For parents, when their children can participate in school more with the guidance of teachers, they have more time to increase production and improve the family's economic life.
Besides the advantages, this principal also frankly shared the difficulties such as, currently, the physical facilities such as classrooms and equipment are sometimes insufficient, causing difficulties in arrangement and direction. Many schools and localities do not have teachers, leading to quite a lot of pressure in implementation.
“Many students live not too far from the center but not near the school (from 2 km to more than 3 km away) so they cannot stay in boarding school. After school in the morning, when they come home, there is no one to take care of them because their parents work far away in the fields and do not come home at noon or their parents work far away. They lack adult care, so they often take care of themselves when they go to class in the morning and go to school by themselves,” said Ms. Xuan.
"To effectively implement the policy of teaching 2 sessions/day, I think it is necessary to focus on and invest in facilities; recruit teachers so that teachers can work with peace of mind and dedication," said Ms. Pham Thi Xuan, Principal of Dao San Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.
