Experience to create

In order to achieve the goal of comprehensive education development for students according to the 2018 General Education Program, recently, Dien Bien Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minority Students organized an art creation experience activity for 21 students out of 80 members of the Photography - Fine Arts Club (CLB) with the theme "Experiencing art creation activities" in Nam Khau Hu area, Thanh Nua commune.

Mr. Vu Trung Hoan, Principal of Dien Bien Province Ethnic Minority Boarding High School, said: “This is the second field trip of the Club since the beginning of the school year. The students have the opportunity to visit and experience the real world, thereby gaining creative artistic ideas. This continues to affirm the school’s orientation towards comprehensive education, focusing on developing the capacity, qualities and spiritual life of students.”

Ms. Lo Thi Hien, Art teacher and Club Leader, shared: “With the characteristics of a boarding school, most students eat, live and study on campus, they have little opportunity to contact with the outside environment. Therefore, practical experiences not only have educational meaning, but also help students broaden their knowledge, nurture their emotions, increase their ability to observe and appreciate art. These factors are very important in forming students' beautiful personalities.”

During the field trip, students are divided into groups based on their interests such as photography, fine arts, fashion and stage design. Each group has a specific teacher to guide them, combining theory and practice.

For the photography group, students are instructed on how to use professional and semi-professional cameras, familiarizing themselves with basic parameters such as aperture, speed, ISO, focusing and composition. The outdoor experience space is a “special classroom” for students to practice taking photos in natural light conditions, capturing vivid moments of landscapes and people.

Dinh The Nam, a 10A4 student, is an active member of the photography group. Nam shared: “During the field trip, we were able to hold professional cameras and take our own photos to have beautiful content and form. I feel very excited when I can create according to my own ideas and share and learn from the experiences of my friends in the group.”

Meanwhile, the art group focused on realistic sketching. They brought pencils, charcoal, and paper to quickly capture everyday scenes: roads, rows of trees, roofs, or the figures of workers. No longer textbook illustrations, each stroke now had the breath of life.

Lau Thi Mai Hoa, a student of class 10A5, shared after the sketching session: “Nam Khau Hu in the wild sunflower season appears like a beautiful frame. When I have the chance to experience it in real life and draw what I see, I love painting more and want to try to study Fine Arts well.”

Opportunities for students to develop comprehensively

Not only do they learn art, the field trip is also an opportunity for students to practice soft skills such as teamwork, communication, time management, problem solving and independence. They organize their own teams, assign tasks and support each other in each activity.

Lo Duc Anh, a student of class 12C7, Team Leader and Fanpage Admin of the Club, said: “I am in charge of recording the Club's activities to post on the Fanpage. The job is quite stressful but also very interesting. I have to take photos, select photos, write articles and post news in an attractive way. Thanks to that, I learned how to do basic communication and improve my IT skills.”

Accompanying the students on the field trip, Ms. Lo Thi Hien shared: "Each field trip is a lesson without a lesson plan. I hope that the students will not only learn to draw or take photos, but also learn to observe life with a respectful eye, love beauty and preserve cultural values."

At the end of the experience, students felt the value of accumulating useful knowledge and skills through practical experience activities, contributing to enriching spiritual life and perfecting personality. The experience also has the meaning of career orientation for students with artistic talent who want to pursue professional schools specializing in Fine Arts and Photography.

Mr. Vu Trung Hoan emphasized: “The school always cares about comprehensive education for students. Art helps students develop their spiritual life, nurture their souls and shape their personalities. We identify creative experiences as one of the important goals alongside cultural teaching.”

In addition, the Photography and Fine Arts Club also has a Fashion and Stage Art Design group. Tran Thi Huyen Trang, class 12C6, especially loves fashion and acting. "After stressful study hours, I often train my group members on how to pose in front of the camera and how to catwalk on stage to get the most beautiful pictures" - Huyen Trang expressed.

The Photography - Fine Arts Club of Dien Bien Provincial Ethnic Minority Boarding High School has 80 members who are students in all 3 grades 10, 11, 12. This is a gathering place for young people who love beauty, have a passion for art, can freely create and express their personality through each photo, drawing, and design.
