With the lesson "Natural disasters and prevention measures", Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, geography teacher at Le Minh Xuan High School, led students through different activities.

The lesson not only helps me understand more about geography but also shows me my responsibility to the community.

Students and teachers shed tears

The first was a puzzle game to form a complete picture. The groups discussed very enthusiastically to find the problem and name the puzzle pieces. The final picture appeared and was completely within the students' predictions: types of natural disasters in Vietnam.

In particular, the activity that created the most emotions for both students, teachers and audiences was the reporting and presentation. The groups drew lots to present about storms, floods, landslides, droughts, tornadoes, etc. (places where natural disasters often occur, analysis of causes and consequences, prevention measures, etc.).

The real images of Vietnamese people in the North, Central regions,... struggling to cope with storms and floods... made many students and teachers in attendance shed tears.

Even more special, after completing the practice and application activities, the students of class 12A18 asked the teacher's permission to launch a fundraising campaign to support the people of Central Vietnam who are facing great difficulties in the historic flood.

Nguyen Tan Kiet, a student of class 12A18, said: "Our donation aims to spread love to people in flood-affected areas.

The amount of money we raised may not be much, but it is our sincere desire to motivate people in flood-affected areas in general and our peers in particular. This is what we need to do after finishing the lesson "Natural disasters and prevention measures".

And the things that remain

It is known that the lesson on natural disasters taught by Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep was also attended by geography teachers from cluster 11 in Ho Chi Minh City (including wards, communes, and special zones: Vinh Loc, Tan Vinh Loc, Binh Loi, Tan Nhut, Binh Chanh, Hung Long, Binh Hung of the old Binh Chanh district, and wards of Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, Can Gio, Thanh An of the old Can Gio district; wards of Nha Be, Hiep Phuoc of the old Nha Be district).

Ms. Diep commented: "I taught the topic of natural disasters in 10 periods. The lesson on November 25 was the 9th period: students presented and reported on their learning products. The time students studied this topic in October and November was also the time when the storm and flood situation in our country was so terrible, causing great loss in all aspects.

Students not only study proactively, know how to combine textbook knowledge with real life situations, but also know how to apply learned knowledge into practice, know how to care and take practical actions to share difficulties with people in disaster areas.

Talking about learning from reality, Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc, a student of class 12A18, shared: "To increase the practicality of the product, the group proactively updated the storm and flood situation through electronic newspapers from the end of October to the whole of November.

While researching and collecting information for the product and also after class, I don't know what to say other than feeling sorry for my fellow countrymen... Every year our country has to go through many natural disasters, the damage from the previous year's natural disaster has not yet been overcome, but this year's natural disaster has arrived.

From then on, I realized how much my life was still warm and comfortable. I think when we talk about the two words "natural disasters", we also understand that humans cannot completely avoid them. From then on, it became a big challenge for our country in general and the young generation in particular. But in difficult times, human love becomes even more warm, love cannot be expressed only in words but must be accompanied by practical actions."

Meanwhile, Phan Nguyen Hoang Giang, a student of class 12A18, said: "The content of the lesson on natural disasters is very meaningful and close to reality, because natural disasters are an annual problem in Vietnam. The lesson not only helps me understand more about geography but also shows me my responsibility towards the community.

Because we saw and heard about the damage that people in flood-affected areas had to endure, we felt moved and wanted to do something to help and share the difficulties with our fellow countrymen and students of the same age. Donating is not only a movement but also shows the spirit of mutual love - a tradition of the Vietnamese people."

Mr. Le Thanh Long (geography specialist, Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, spoke after observing class 12A18):

Geography lessons are not just on the pages of books.

The students prepared donation boxes themselves, assigned people to be on duty, and each of them came to contribute with the most sincere hearts.

Although the amount of money is not large, it is the sentiment of a student towards his peers who have to stay home from school because of the flood.

The image of students gathering around the donation box, their faces serious and full of sharing, became the most humane moment of the seminar.

That is when geography lessons are not only on the pages of books, but are transformed into beautiful actions and good deeds of young citizens.
