Accordingly, Hoi An outstandingly surpassed six other nominated cities in the Asian region to be honored in this category for the fifth consecutive year. Hoi An is recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site and has been a leading cultural tourism destination in the region for many years. In recent years, Hoi An has welcomed an average of about 5 million international visitors annually.
This year, Vietnam's tourism industry was also honored in many other important categories, such as: Vietnam as the world's leading heritage destination and the world's leading natural island destination; Moc Chau as the world's leading regional nature destination; Tam Dao as the world's leading town destination; and Dong Van Karst Plateau (Tuyen Quang) as the world's leading cultural destination... The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, is a prestigious award recognized worldwide and is considered the "Oscars of the tourism industry".
