Talks between high-ranking delegations of Quang Tri province and Champasak province

At the meeting, Deputy Secretary of Champasak Provincial Party Committee Sanan Siphaphommachan informed about some socio-economic, defense and security results of Champasak province in 2024, tasks for 2025, and affirmed that the visit and work of the high-ranking delegation of Quang Tri province this time will contribute to fostering the special solidarity between Laos and Vietnam as well as Champasak and Quang Tri provinces.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Long Hai emphasized that in recent times, the two provinces of Quang Tri and Champasak have always paid special attention and shared with each other. In 2023, the two provinces held high-level talks and signed a Cooperation Plan for the period 2024 - 2026. On that basis, delegation exchanges, conference attendance, cultural - political exchanges, investment promotion cooperation, etc. have been implemented flexibly and effectively.

Currently, Quang Tri province is focusing on accelerating the progress of key projects such as airports, seaports, transportation, energy, creating momentum for regional development, attracting investment, promoting economic - trade - service potential, aiming to form a regional connection center on the East - West corridor axis between Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. Quang Tri province identifies Champasak as a strategic partner in connecting inter-regional development of Southern Laos - Central Central Vietnam - Northeastern Thailand, especially in the fields of: trade - logistics, tourism, education - training and people-to-people exchange.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding with several important contents: Continue to strengthen propaganda and education on the tradition of the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos in general and between the two provinces of Quang Tri and Champasak in particular among cadres, party members and people of all walks of life; raise awareness and take action to consolidate and increasingly deepen the political, foreign affairs, security and defense relations between the two provinces.

Create conditions for departments, branches and localities to exchange information and share experiences in Party building and socio-economic development. Coordinate the implementation of people-to-people diplomacy activities, friendship and cooperation activities to celebrate important events and anniversaries of major holidays between the two countries and two provinces.

Pay attention to promoting the effective implementation of the cooperation plan between the two provinces for the period 2024-2026. Promptly direct agencies, departments, branches and localities to resolve difficulties and problems in the implementation process to complete the contents agreed upon and signed by the senior leaders of the two provinces.

Direct agencies, sectors and localities of each province to increase exchanges, professional exchanges and experience sharing; encourage businesses to regularly participate in activities organized by the two provinces such as: trade fairs, development of goods distribution channels, development of e-commerce, and business connections.

Cooperate to exploit the potential strengths of the corridor parallel to the East-West Economic Corridor (PARA EWEC) connecting Quang Tri - Salavan - Champasak and the northeastern provinces of Thailand; encourage and facilitate cooperation in tourism, passenger and cargo transport; develop plans and measures to improve cooperation efficiency; build joint tours and tourist routes between the two localities.

On this occasion, Quang Tri province supported Champasak province with 200 million VND to implement social security programs in the area.

Previously, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Long Hai and members of the delegation visited and worked with the Executive Committee of the Vietnamese Association and the Friendship Primary School of Champasak Province (Laos).

The Vietnamese community in Champasak currently has about 1,100 households/nearly 5,000 people, formed over many generations. People live in harmony, solidarity, love and help each other; preserve national cultural identity; have good relations with local authorities and local people.

In recent times, the Vietnamese Association in Champasak Province has organized many community activities towards the homeland, while promoting the spirit of solidarity between Vietnam and Laos. Champasak Provincial Friendship Primary School alone currently has nearly 400 students, of which 30% are Vietnamese children.

Currently, the school teaches 6 Vietnamese lessons per week, taught by Vietnamese teachers living in Laos. Over the years, the school, teachers and students have strived to teach well, study well and have achieved encouraging results. The school pays great attention to the subject of Vietnamese and teaches it as a foreign language.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Long Hai highly appreciated the results of the activities of the Vietnamese Association in Champasak Province in connecting and building activities, thereby creating more prestige and closeness with the local government and local people. At the same time, creating conditions and helping many local people and people from other localities in the country to come to do business and develop the economy.

Regarding the teaching of Vietnamese to students of Champasak Provincial Friendship Primary School, this is a commendable model in maintaining the Vietnamese language, preserving cultural identity, creating connections, nurturing future generations; practically contributing to consolidating and promoting the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

The Provincial Party Secretary hoped that teachers and students of the school would continue to make more efforts and strive to achieve many outstanding achievements in the following years. At the same time, he presented the school with 5 sets of computers to serve teaching and learning.
