Not only are the pages of personal memories, the work also opens up a true perspective on Vietnamese history, culture, and education throughout more than half a century.
Born in 1950 in the border area of Cao Bang , Nguyen Nhu Mai's childhood was associated with bombs and bullets, with a long period of living in a cave to avoid the enemy. Amidst the hardship, the boy still nurtured his love of literature, established a student writing group, wrote the Rising Sun wall newspaper and boldly submitted articles to Thieu Nien Tien Phong to receive his first royalties. Memories of the sound of the gong calling students, the days of running from the enemy or going to class in the mountains and forests became vivid material in the first part of the memoir.

The central part of the memoir is the story of the birth and rise of Hoa Hoc Tro newspaper. From the scientific publishing environment, Nguyen Nhu Mai returned to Thieu Nien Tien Phong newspaper and together with his colleagues prepared, built and developed a publication for young adults. Under his contribution, Hoa Hoc Tro quickly became a familiar newspaper for many generations of Vietnamese students, a place to encourage young creativity and open up an inspiring school cultural space.
In addition to professional stories, the author also devoted many touching pages to his readers, colleagues, young writers as well as special memories with General Vo Nguyen Giap or international friends at the World Youth and Students Festival in Algeria. The memoir also recounts his journey into writing for children with Woodpecker , science books such as Treasures in the Earth , Curiosity to Strange Lands , From Inside the House to the Yard... and his participation in many history - geography book series at Kim Dong to make history closer to children.
