Scientific workshop on building drug-free communes, wards and special zones

On November 14, at Khanh Hoa Provincial Police, the Department of Drug Crime Investigation (CSĐTTP) - Ministry of Public Security organized a scientific workshop on building drug-free communes, wards and special zones with the participation of the Police of 16 provinces and cities in the southern region.

Speaking at the workshop, Colonel Nguyen Van Cuong - Deputy Director of the Drug Crime Investigation Department emphasized that the current situation of drug crimes and drug abuse in our country continues to be complicated. In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the Drug Crime Investigation Police force discovered more than 11,600 cases, arrested nearly 23,000 subjects, seized 150 kg of heroin, 700 kg of marijuana, 2.6 tons and 1.7 million synthetic drug pills. Many major cases were busted; notably, a particularly large illegal drug production case, seized about 1.4 tons of ketamine and nearly 80 tons of chemicals.

Implementing the national target program on drug prevention and control by 2030, the Government has directed the synchronous implementation of measures to reduce supply - reduce demand - reduce harm, striving to have at least 50% of commune-level administrative units meet the criteria of "drug-free areas" and 15-20% of provinces and cities be drug-free by 2030. In 2025 alone, the target is to achieve at least 20% of communes, wards and special zones being drug-free. Up to now, nationwide, 744/3,321 communes, wards and special zones have met the criteria of "drug-free areas" (accounting for 22.4%) and 852 units have registered to complete the target.

At the workshop, along with focusing on assessing the current status of the implementation of drug-free communes, wards and special zones in recent times, delegates also discussed difficulties and obstacles in directing, managing the area, and organizing implementation; especially issues related to human resources, facilities, subject management, community awareness and increasingly sophisticated criminal methods; at the same time, sharing experiences, good models and effective solutions from practices in localities.
