(CT) - On May 12, in Can Tho City, the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges in collaboration with Can Tho University organized a national scientific conference "Investment resources for highereducation in the context of autonomy".
Delegates at the Conference.
Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Do Ngoc An, Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission; representatives of the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges... attended the conference.
The conference organizing committee received more than 100 scientific presentations from managers, researchers, experts, and lecturers from research institutes, universities, and colleges nationwide. The conference had 4 sessions with 8 presentations and many opinions exchanged and shared by delegates revolving around a number of urgent and practical issues related to investment resources for higher education in the context of autonomy. For example, mechanisms and policies need to be improved, creating a favorable legal corridor for investment in higher education; the role of the state in resources for higher education; university autonomy and Decree 60 on the financial mechanism of public service units; developing non-public higher education in the higher education service market, etc.
According to Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of Can Tho University, the biggest difficulty of Vietnam's higher education today is that investment from the state and society has both decreased. To be self-sufficient, the survival issue of higher education institutions and colleges is to ensure the investment of appropriate and sufficient resources. In addition to accurately assessing the difficulties and obstacles in investment resources, it is also necessary to study and compare with higher education institutions in the region and around the world to help higher education institutions have the right measures and directions for sustainable development.
Speaking at the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, emphasized that higher education has a role in providing high-quality human resources, as well as creating scientific and technological products. Investing in higher education is investing in development. However, higher education is currently facing difficulties in unlocking and promoting resources; the most important of which are finance, human resources, and technology. This workshop has raised the right issues. The Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges, teachers at universities together fully, comprehensively, deeply and focusedly reflect on promoting and optimally using resources for higher education. From there, propose to the leaders of the Party, the State, and society investment solutions so that higher education truly becomes a key driving force for national development.
