At the Award Ceremony for the 2026 Digital Transformation Competition in the Banking Sector, held on the morning of May 23rd, the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, Mr. Pham Duc An, commended the active participation, sense of responsibility, and serious preparation of the competing teams from units throughout the sector. These teams are contributing to strongly spreading the spirit of innovation, proactive digital transformation, and the aspiration to build a modern, smart, and sustainably developing banking sector in the digital age.
According to the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, the Digital Transformation Competition for the Banking Sector is being held in the context of the entire sector actively implementing key tasks on the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in accordance with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
"This is one of the key and practical activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese banking industry. Not only does it have the significance of a movement activity, but the competition is also an opportunity to concretize the national digital transformation orientations throughout the entire system," said Mr. Pham Duc An.
“The competition is a significant event, contributing to enhancing knowledge, strengthening solidarity, and inspiring aspiration for innovation among officials, civil servants, and employees throughout the banking sector. This is not only a beneficial platform but also a milestone demonstrating the banking sector's determination to proactively adapt to technological trends, promote in-depth and substantive digital transformation; it is also an opportunity for units within the sector to promote their image, culture, and brand to the community,” the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam shared.

Over the years, the banking sector has consistently been one of the pioneers in applying technology and promoting digital transformation. With a focus on putting people and businesses at the center and using customer experience as a benchmark, the banking sector has achieved many positive results in terms of institutional framework, technological infrastructure, data, digital payments, digital services, and system security and safety.
The Organizing Committee awarded three third prizes to the Vietnam Agricultural and Rural Development Bank ( Agribank ); Ho Chi Minh City Development Commercial Bank (HDBank); and the Vietnam National Credit Information Center (CIC).
Five consolation prizes were awarded to the Vietnam Deposit Insurance Corporation (DIV); Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank); Loc Phat Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank ( LPBank ); Vietnam Maritime Commercial Bank (MSB); and Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking.

To date, digital payment infrastructure continues to be heavily invested in and upgraded; cashless payments are growing rapidly; many credit institutions have over 90% of their transactions conducted through digital channels; and the ecosystem of digital banking products and services is becoming increasingly diverse and convenient. Administrative reform, the provision of comprehensive public services, and the development of data infrastructure in the banking sector continue to be promoted, creating an important foundation for the comprehensive digital transformation process.
However, alongside the achievements, Governor Pham Duc An also noted that the banking sector is facing many challenges, such as increasingly stringent requirements for information security and safety; pressure to develop digital human resources; disparities in digital transformation capabilities among different units; and the need for even more vigorous innovation to adapt to new technological trends. This shows that digital transformation is not just about technology, but more importantly, it requires a change in mindset, awareness, and working methods of each employee.
Therefore, Governor Pham Duc An emphasized that the competition has special significance in spreading digital thinking, building a digital culture, and promoting the spirit of learning, innovation, and creativity throughout the industry. This is not only a professional competition, but also a large-scale training and knowledge update program for officials, union members, and workers throughout the industry.

In his concluding remarks at the competition, Mr. Pham Tien Dung, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, Chairman of the Vietnam Banking Union, and Head of the Organizing Committee, stated that the 2026 Digital Transformation Competition for the Banking Sector is a practical activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Bank, in response to the Digital Transformation Day for the Banking Sector; contributing to raising awareness, digital skills, and promoting the pioneering role of the banking sector in implementing national digital transformation and the digital literacy movement.
