On May 8th, VnExpress Newspaper co-organized the opening ceremony of the VnExpress Marathon Can Tho 2026, attracting over 10,000 athletes from Vietnam and abroad. The event continues to make its mark as one of the large-scale sporting activities in the Mekong Delta region, while also contributing to promoting the image of Can Tho as a dynamic, friendly, and culturally rich city.

This is the second time the race has been held in Can Tho City following the success of the first season. With the theme "Running amidst the waterways," the VnExpress Marathon Can Tho 2026 continues to capitalize on the unique landscape of this Western Vietnam city, offering a different experience for athletes.
The starting and finishing areas are located in Hau River Park. From here, the running routes pass through many riverside streets, urban areas, and familiar landmarks of the city. The open space and the characteristic riverside lifestyle make the journey of conquering the race more vibrant and emotionally fulfilling.
According to the organizers, this year's race is expected to attract around 10,000 athletes, an increase of about 1,000 compared to 2025. This includes approximately 400 foreign athletes competing in various distances.

Specifically, the 5km race is expected to attract around 2,500 athletes; the 10km race around 3,000 athletes; the 21km race around 3,500 athletes; and the 42km marathon around 1,000 athletes. In addition, the Kun Marathon for children aged 6-10 is also expected to attract around 2,000 young athletes.
This year's race takes place over three days, from May 8th to May 10th. During the first two days, the Expo area and race kit distribution are open to athletes, offering various experiential activities and booths from sponsors and partners, creating a vibrant atmosphere before the official competition day.
According to the plan, starting at 3:00 AM on May 10th, thousands of runners will simultaneously start, transforming the city center into a large-scale sporting space from the early morning. This is also considered a special highlight of the VnExpress Marathon, combining sports, tourism, and urban experiences.

The organizers stated that this year's event continues to be invested in terms of professional standards, with a meticulously measured and inspected race course to ensure competition requirements are met. The race includes four main distances: 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km, suitable for a wide range of athletes from amateur to professional levels.
Alongside the adult events, the Kun Marathon continues to be organized to provide a recreational activity for children. The event took place on the morning of May 9th at Song Hau Park, with a distance of approximately 700m and was completely free.
The VnExpress Marathon Can Tho 2026 contributes to promoting tourism, spreading an active lifestyle, and further enhancing the image of the central city of the Mekong Delta region.
