On the evening of December 6, the first Festival of amateur Cheo clubs in Bac Ninh province in 2025 officially opened at the Bac Ninh Cheo Theater Hall (Ly Tu Tan Street, Bac Giang Ward, Bac Ninh Province).
This year's festival brings together more than 500 artisans, actors and amateur musicians from 12 Cheo clubs in the following communes and wards: Bac Giang, Nenh, Canh Thuy, Yen Dung, Song Lieu, Tien Phong, Bao Dai, Nghia Phuong, Quang Trung, Dong Viet, and Phuc Hoa.

This is the core force of the Cheo singing movement in the province, supported by Bac Ninh Cheo Theater to foster, restore and maintain regular activities in the period 2005 - 2025.
Participating in the Festival, each troupe will bring a program lasting from 25 to 50 minutes, including excerpts, traditional Cheo melodies and new compositions. The Organizing Committee will award the whole group; prizes for the scenes and excerpts; and individual prizes for the actors who sing and perform their roles well.
Right after the opening ceremony, the audience enjoyed the performances of the clubs with many rich performances such as solo singing, duet singing, group singing, skits, and cheo excerpts. Many performances were elaborately staged, with beautiful props and costumes, vividly recreating the traditional cheo stage space, creating a strong impression and receiving enthusiastic cheers.
According to Mr. Truong Quang Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Ninh province, in recent times, Bac Ninh province has always paid attention to preserving and promoting the value of Cheo art; implementing many investment programs and projects to restore the activities of clubs; creating favorable conditions for the Cheo singing movement to develop sustainably, truly becoming a source of nurturing the cultural life of the community.
The festival of amateur Cheo clubs in Bac Ninh province is organized to evaluate the quality of Cheo singing and performing movements in the province; at the same time, effectively implement projects to support investment, restoration and construction of new amateur Cheo clubs at the grassroots level.
Thereby contributing to the preservation, conservation and promotion of the value of Cheo art - a unique folk theater form, long associated with the cultural and spiritual life of the people. This is also a playground for clubs to exchange, learn experiences, and continue to improve the quality of the mass art movement.
The festival takes place from now until December 7.
