Why does belly fat make men feel "weaker"?

According to Dr. Tra Anh Duy, a specialist at the Men's Health Center, speaking to VnExpress, visceral fat is a dangerous type of fat that accumulates deep around the liver, pancreas, intestines, and other vital organs. Unlike subcutaneous fat, this type of fat acts like a "factory," producing a range of inflammatory substances that disrupt metabolism in the body.

One of the most noticeable effects is its impact on erectile function.

For a normal penile erection, the body requires the coordinated efforts of the brain, nerves, hormones, and blood vessels. When visceral fat levels are high, blood vessels begin to be damaged, blood flow decreases, and this directly affects the ability to deliver blood to the genitals.

Specifically, visceral fat reduces the production of nitric oxide (NO), a substance that helps blood vessels dilate when men are sexually aroused. When NO levels decrease, erections become more difficult and last longer.

The worrying thing is that the blood vessels in the penis are very small, so they are often affected earlier than the heart or brain. Therefore, erectile dysfunction is sometimes an early warning sign of cardiovascular disease or metabolic disorders.

Belly fat can also lower testosterone in men.

When testosterone levels decrease, men are more likely to experience a decline in libido. This creates a vicious cycle: the more belly fat a man has, the lower his testosterone levels become; the lower his testosterone, the easier it is to gain weight and experience decreased libido.

In particular, alcohol is considered an "enemy" of testosterone and men's waistlines. Regularly drinking beer not only increases belly fat but also directly affects sperm quality and erectile function.

Snoring and fatigue can also be related to physiology.

One often-overlooked sign is loud snoring and sleep apnea in people with abdominal obesity.

When fat accumulates around the neck and abdominal area, the airways can become constricted, leading to oxygen deprivation during sleep. This results in poor sleep quality, reduced testosterone production at night, and persistent fatigue in men the following day.

Many people, despite getting enough sleep, still feel sluggish, lack energy, and experience decreased libido. This could be a warning sign of metabolic disorders and declining male hormone levels.

Don't overuse "male enhancement" drugs.

Many men experiencing difficulties in the bedroom often secretly buy erectile dysfunction medication, sprays, or other products advertised online.

However, doctors warn that this is only a temporary solution. If the root cause is abdominal obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or diabetes, overuse of medication can be dangerous for cardiovascular health.

In particular, medications of unknown origin pose a risk of hypotension, cardiovascular disorders, and liver and kidney damage.
