Meeting to celebrate International Day of Older Persons

Attending the event were comrade Kim Ruong, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission; leaders of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; departments, branches, unions, armed forces of the province; leaders of the Association of the Elderly of the province, districts, towns, cities, communes, wards and townships.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Van, Standing Member of the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board, reviewed the tradition of International Elderly Day. International Elderly Day has the meaning of unifying the rights of the elderly and for the common progress of humanity, affirming that the skills, experience and intelligence of the elderly not only help improve the lives of the elderly but also improve the lives of the whole society.

Comrade Nguyen Hoang Van, Standing Member of the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board, spoke to review the 32nd anniversary of International Elderly Day.

In Vietnam, the elderly play a particularly important role in building and defending the Fatherland. Many elderly people actively participate in campaigns and movements, actively participate in charity work, social security, enthusiastically compete, uphold the spirit of "Old age - Bright example", contribute to building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, and build the homeland to become more and more prosperous and civilized.

In Tra Vinh , the Association of the Elderly at all levels has always clearly demonstrated the role of "Old Age - Bright Example", mobilizing families and children to well implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws. Currently, the whole province has 138,533 elderly people (accounting for 12.5% of the population), of which 18,196 are 80 years old and over; 106,549 members of the Association of the Elderly. The work of building the Association's organization and developing members has always been focused on by the Association at all levels. Advise and coordinate to well implement the work of caring for the elderly and social protection regimes for the elderly, participate in wishing longevity and celebrating longevity for the elderly in accordance with regulations.

The branches and groups of the Elderly Association in the province have established hundreds of clubs, creating conditions for elderly health care, mobilizing the establishment of 33 Funds for Care and Promotion of the Role of Elderly at the commune level and 01 fund at the district level. Since the beginning of the year, implementing the program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly", the Elderly Association has coordinated eye screening for 1,940 elderly people, mobilized free cataract surgery for 539 elderly people, mobilized thousands of gifts for poor elderly people and those in difficult circumstances...

Launching the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam, comrade Nguyen Van Long, Head of the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board, requested authorities at all levels, the Fatherland Front, sectors, unions, and Elderly Associations at all levels to pay attention to promoting the role of the elderly and helping the Elderly Associations at all levels in accordance with the Law on the Elderly, in line with the theme of the Action Month 2023 "The elderly are promoted and fully cared for. The Elderly Associations at all levels identify protecting, caring for, and promoting the role of the elderly as a key task in the Association's work, mobilizing resources to join hands in caring for the poor elderly and those in difficult circumstances...

Comrade Nguyen Van Long presented a certificate of merit from the Provincial Elderly Association to an elderly person with good economic performance.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Kim Ruong praised the achievements of the Association of the Elderly in the province with practical contributions to the work of protecting, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly. However, there is still a part of the elderly who have difficult lives and have not received good care and attention. He requested that the Association of the Elderly at all levels continue to promote propaganda and mobilize children and grandchildren to take good care of grandparents and parents, and carry out the theme "The elderly are promoted and fully cared for" of the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam this year.

It is recommended that Party committees at all levels, authorities, sectors and organizations continue to do a good job of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly. Elderly Associations at all levels continue to replicate good models, creative and effective methods, creating all conditions for the elderly to live happily, healthily, safely and happily in their families and in society.

Comrade Kim Ruong presented a certificate of merit from the Provincial People's Committee to the elderly who are good at economics.

On the occasion of the Month of Action for the Elderly, the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee used the Provincial “For the Poor” Fund to give 100 gifts (VND 500,000/gift) to poor and disadvantaged elderly people in the province. At the meeting, the Elderly Association gave 10 gifts to elderly people in Chau Thanh district.

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 02 individuals, the Provincial Association of the Elderly awarded certificates of merit to 05 individuals with outstanding achievements in the movement "Elderly people doing good business" for the period 2018 - 2023.
