The signing ceremony marks a new development in the long-standing medical and academic cooperation between France and Vietnam.
According to Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Le Ngoc Thanh, Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the cooperation between Vietnam and France in the health sector is a relationship with a long history and profound humanitarian significance. Over the past decades, France has played a very important role in medical training, scientific research and the development of the hospital system in Vietnam. This cooperation is not only professional or academic but also a symbol of friendship, trust and knowledge sharing between the two peoples.
Therefore, the signing of these cooperation agreements marks an important step forward in continuing and expanding the long-standing relationship between the two countries. The cooperation helps improve the capacity of Vietnamese doctors and medical staff, promote bilateral clinical training and scientific research, and develop cooperation in smart hospital management and digital transformation - key areas of a modern and sustainable healthcare system.

In December 2025, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy will coordinate with hospitals to implement a series of new cooperation agreements with the University of Clermont-Auvergne and the Clermont-Ferrand Practice Hospital on: enhancing the exchange of postgraduate students, residents and lecturers; promoting the implementation of projects, international publications and aiming at the transfer of advanced techniques and modern medical technology.
The signing ceremony raised many expectations for strengthening cooperation in training highly qualified human resources to contribute to improving the quality of medical services.
The cooperation agreements aim to enhance exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries through doctor and medical student exchange programs and joint research projects. These activities not only help enrich professional practice but also contribute to connecting the medical communities of the two countries through strong humanistic and intellectual bridges.
Ms. Valérie Durand Roche, General Director of the University Hospital Clermont-Ferrand Practice Hospital, said that this cooperation is not just on paper, but also represents a common vision - towards a humane, open and excellence-oriented medicine.
In the context that both countries are facing health challenges such as access to health care services, the increase in chronic diseases, cancer, rare diseases, as well as the development of technology and artificial intelligence in medicine..., both sides have the responsibility to cooperate, share knowledge and experience, to improve the quality of treatment and training of medical human resources.

Clermont-Ferrand Hospital will receive Vietnamese doctors and interns to practice and study in a modern, experienced and well-equipped medical environment; organize internship courses, seminars, and academic exchanges between professional groups of the two sides, to enhance connections and spread knowledge; share research methods, scientific topics and clinical practice experiences in similar specialties.
In addition, the partnership will expand training programs for management, nursing and medical staff, focusing on hospital management, service quality and process improvement, within the framework of bilateral agreements.
In the coming time, Clermont-Ferrand Hospital will select and support young doctors and medical staff who wish to study and work abroad; promote French language learning, creating conditions for them to quickly adapt to the working environment in France; provide scholarships and financial support for potential candidates; and increase the reception of Vietnamese doctors and interns in the hospital's departments and rooms.
The medical cooperation between Clermont-Ferrand and medical units in Hanoi originated in the 1980s and 1990s, initiated by Professor Charles de Ribeyrolles and Professor Ton That Bach. Hundreds of French doctors, nurses and medical experts have come to Vietnam to teach, train and provide technical support in the fields of cardiovascular surgery, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging and hospital management. From 1991 to present, 72 Vietnamese doctors and medical staff have been trained in Clermont-Ferrand for a period of 6 months to 2 years, in specialties such as cardiovascular surgery, intensive care, diagnostic imaging, nursing and hospital management.
