This Memorandum of Understanding was announced during a meeting and working session between the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Mr. Remy Ejel, General Director of Nestlé Asia, Oceania and Africa (Zone AOA). The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding demonstrates Nestlé Group's strong belief in Vietnam's long-term potential, while also recognizing Vietnam's role as an important growth driver in Southeast Asia. This is also a testament to the shared commitment to linking economic growth with environmental protection and social progress.

The focus of the partnership is to promote regenerative and low-emission agricultural practices. By supporting farmers to adopt these practices, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Nestlé Vietnam aim to enhance the resilience to climate change and competitiveness of Vietnamese agriculture.

Nestlé’s flagship sustainability initiative, the NESCAFÉ Plan, has already supported more than 21,000 farming households, replanted 86,000 hectares of coffee and increased farm incomes. Building on this success, the partnership will expand training, technical assistance and the provision of high-quality seedlings to coffee farmers, particularly in the Central Highlands, helping them improve their livelihoods in the face of climate change, while contributing to Vietnam’s Net Zero target.

Nestlé commits to sustainable investment in Vietnam

In addition to the goal of transforming agricultural farming methods, the cooperation also focuses on innovation, knowledge sharing and capacity building. Accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Nestlé Vietnam will coordinate to organize workshops, seminars and training courses to raise awareness of the new legal framework and good practices in sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. These events will bring together experts, policymakers and industry leaders to discuss important topics such as greenhouse gas emission reduction, circular economy models and waste management, thereby contributing to building an environment conducive to sustainable development.

Within the framework of the cooperation, Nestlé will implement an internship program for agricultural students of Tay Nguyen University. This initiative aims to train the next generation of leaders in the field of sustainable agriculture, equipping young Vietnamese people with the necessary skills, knowledge and practical experience to contribute to promoting innovation and enhancing resilience in the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment highly appreciated the initiative of the business community in promoting the common goals of the Government and ministries. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Nestlé Vietnam affirmed the common and long-term commitment between the two sides to contribute to the realization of national strategies on green growth and sustainable development, contributing to Vietnam's Net Zero target by 2050.

Representing Nestlé Group, Mr. Remy Ejel, General Director of Nestlé Zone AOA, shared: "This cooperation agreement demonstrates our commitment to sustainable investment in Vietnam, and affirms Nestlé's role as a strategic development partner. We are honored to accompany the Vietnamese Government on the journey to build a sustainable, low-emission economy and contribute to the formation of a new generation of farmers ready to transition to regenerative agriculture."

With more than three decades of operations in Vietnam, Nestlé is not only a leading food company but also a partner in creating a more sustainable and inclusive future. Guided by a global vision of leveraging the power of food to improve quality of life and the philosophy of “Creating Shared Value”, Nestlé promotes healthy nutrition and lifestyles, regenerative agriculture and a zero-waste future. These efforts demonstrate Nestlé’s long-term commitment to Vietnam’s national nutrition goals and its transition to a green, low-emission economy.

Also in the spirit of always sharing and accompanying, recently, when Vietnam was continuously negatively impacted by storms No. 10, 11, 13 and responding to the call of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Nestlé Vietnam joined hands to share and support in cash through the Front along with food and nutritional products to affected localities.
