Spreading effective production models
As Chairwoman of the Board of Directors (BOD) and Director, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Yen has led Hau Thanh Agricultural Cooperative (Long Ho commune) to gradually develop stably and sustainably, in line with the spirit of Project 939 on supporting women to start businesses associated with collective economic development and new rural construction.
Ms. Yen said that in recent years, the cooperative has continuously maintained a revenue of more than 2.4 billion VND/year, with after-tax profits and members' capital contributions increasing steadily.
What is noteworthy is the bold investment in applying mechanization to the fields, from field levelers, combine harvesters to "3-in-1" Drones to support spraying, sowing, and fertilizing.
This method not only helps reduce labor costs and protect farmers' health, but also creates a foundation for cooperatives to transform to advanced production models that adapt to climate change.
Not stopping at production, Ms. Yen also focuses on building the Red Dragon rice brand, which won third prize in the 2020 Vietnamese Delicious Rice Brand Contest. “We identify the important thing for the Cooperative is to create sustainable livelihoods for women. Therefore, in 2022, the Cooperative created jobs for 186 female workers.
From 2023-2025, the number of workers will increase to 225 per year, helping 70% of local women escape poverty. Along with that, the Cooperative actively contributes to social security programs, builds roads, rural lighting, and completes criterion 13 in building new rural areas in Long Ho commune..." - Ms. Yen confided.
Building a durian export value chain
Following the spirit of the Government 's Project 939, Tan Phu Agricultural Cooperative (Tan Phu commune) has developed from 80 initial members into one of the most dynamic collective economic models in the province.
The director of the cooperative is Ms. Nguyen Thi Thinh, a daughter born and raised in the agricultural land of Tan Phu.
Established in 2020, the cooperative now has 336 members, linking more than 300 durian growing households, with an area of 214 hectares; the cooperative's revenue increased from 4.8 billion VND in 2023 to 5 billion VND in 2024, with an average member income of 40-50 million VND/year.
The rate of members using services reached over 96%, showing that the cooperative has truly become a production and business support for local farmers.
Ms. Thinh said that the outstanding success of Tan Phu Cooperative is the ability to build a durian value chain that meets export standards. The Cooperative's durian products have achieved 4-star OCOP certification, 200 hectares are protected by geographical indications, and 7 growing area codes for 191 hectares are granted for official export to China.
The female director also demonstrated creativity in developing a circular economic model: using durian shells to compost organic fertilizer with Trichoderma fungi, supplying 75 tons of fertilizer at wholesale prices each year to reduce costs for members.
The Cooperative also effectively operates the Thien Tam Fund with 1 billion VND interest-free for 10 years, helping 30 disadvantaged households maintain production. In addition to economic development, the Cooperative also actively participates in social work, mobilizing about 10 million VND/year to build roads and bridges, and supporting the "Nhan Ai Group" with 5 million VND/month.
With a methodical approach and persistent entrepreneurial spirit, the female Director of Tan Phu Agricultural Cooperative is becoming a typical model for women in the province in developing commodity agriculture, building the export durian brand and making practical contributions to local social security.
