Land area for the production of cassava raw materials by Quang Phu Agricultural Cooperative, Xuan Tin commune.
Thanks to effective land consolidation and concentration, in recent years, the Quang Phu Agricultural Cooperative in Xuan Tin commune has formed specialized areas for high-yield crops, bringing in billions of dong in income each year. Through land consolidation for efficient agricultural production with high economic value, the cooperative has gradually fostered a commodity-based production mindset among the people. Mr. Vu Van Vinh, Director of the Cooperative, said: "Over the years, the Cooperative has invested its own funds to consolidate agricultural land, gradually forming large-scale agricultural production areas. By leasing and contracting production land from people and localities, the Cooperative has accumulated more than 60 hectares of land for direct production and has mobilized dozens of cooperative members to participate in land consolidation, concentrating 1 hectare or more to develop agricultural production on a commercial scale. From these large-scale production areas, the Cooperative has developed the Quang Phu cassava starch product, achieving OCOP 3-star certification, with a raw material area of 5 hectares; more than 100 hectares of sugarcane cultivation and dozens of hectares of production of various vegetables and crops along the value chain.”
In addition to land consolidation, the cooperative also leases and contracts land from local people to develop tray seedling models, transplanting machines, and areas for producing cassava as a raw material, as well as areas for intensive rice cultivation. The outstanding economic efficiency from land consolidation for large-scale agricultural production has led the Quang Phu Agricultural Cooperative to invest in transplanters, plows, combine harvesters, and a system of warehouses and showrooms to develop services and improve production and business efficiency. As a result, in recent years, the farming efficiency and income of the cooperative and its members have steadily increased. The cooperative's average revenue reaches over 3 billion VND per year, with a profit of 250-300 million VND per year.
Yen Dinh commune, a key rice-producing area, has consistently failed to achieve the expected results in agricultural production for many years. Faced with this situation, the Dinh Lien Agricultural Production Cooperative recognized that land consolidation was necessary and a solution to "unleash" the fragmented and small-scale agricultural sector, gradually developing the agricultural economy in line with the overall direction. Therefore, the cooperative collaborated with villages to understand the aspirations of farmers, reviewing households that did not need intensive farming on their agricultural land and encouraging them to switch to other occupations. Simultaneously, they implemented land exchange and leasing programs to improve management efficiency, production guidance, and the application of comprehensive mechanization. As a result, agricultural productivity, output, and quality have steadily increased, and specialized rice and crop farming areas with high economic efficiency have begun to emerge. To date, the cooperative has accumulated 22.5 hectares of agricultural land for rice production, signed product purchase contracts with reputable companies, and hundreds of hectares for commercial vegetable production.
Mr. Luu Tai Sang, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of the Cooperative, said: "After accumulating a certain area of land, the Cooperative invested in comprehensive mechanization, applied greenhouse and net house technology, and adopted scientific and technical advancements and intensive farming practices in production. To date, the quality of products and crop yields of the Cooperative have increased significantly. As a result, the Cooperative's revenue has reached over 5 billion VND per year. At the same time, it has spread the value and effectiveness of land consolidation and concentration for large-scale agricultural production in the locality."
To stimulate demand and support people and cooperatives in the province in promoting land consolidation and concentration for large-scale agricultural production, on January 11, 2019, the Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 13-NQ/TU on land consolidation and concentration for large-scale, high-tech agricultural development by 2025, with a vision to 2030. Through this stimulus mechanism, hundreds of cooperatives have implemented land consolidation and concentration for production, totaling approximately 14,921,077 m2. From these effective consolidation models, high-tech agricultural cooperatives have been formed, with products linked to value chains and sustainable development.
Mr. Le Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Cooperative Union, affirmed: "Land consolidation and concentration is a necessary direction to lift agriculture out of its fragmented and backward state. Agricultural cooperatives play a pivotal role in leading this process. Although many difficulties lie ahead, the Provincial Cooperative Union will always accompany, research, and apply timely support policies to create momentum to help cooperatives transform 'small plots of land' into 'large fields,' enhancing the value of agricultural products and the position of farmers in the digital age."
